Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2011
These are a good "healthier" version of french fries and easier to make! I double my seasonings and sprinkle a generous amount of kosher salt on them. To get that fried and crispy coating, broil them for about 5 mins after they come out of the oven!

Tiramisu Layer Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
this is really good. I have made it as a cake and also made it as a trifle. I cut up all the cake in cubes and layered the ingredients. It's good either way, but making it as a trifle is WAY easier!

Middle Eastern Rice with Black Beans and Chickpeas

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2011
This is good. I've made my own version several times too. I either use chicken or go vegetarian. I also have used it with and without the black beans and it's good either way. I've added candied ginger, green onions and dried apricots before. Serve with a cucumber mint yogurt sauce and grilled flat bread and it's outta this world!

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
Honestly, I have NO clue what all the fuss is about? These chickens were okay but surely nothing to rave about. They were moist but the flavoring wasn't doing it for us. Rotisserie chicken it isn't. It has an odd taste. I cooked two 5 lb chickens and had to double the seasoning to cover both of them. I can make a better roast chicken in 1/2 the time, that comes out just as moist and tastier. I also don't get the "sticky" part?

Cheese and Bacon Potato Rounds

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
These little guys are delish! Tastes like a potato skin without being fried. I seasoned mine with garlic salt, pepper and a dash of Lawrys. Topped with the cheese, bacon and green onions. Served sour cream and ranch dressing on the side. Good topped with hot sauce too! These are perfect for Superbowl parties! Men LOVE these things (ie my husband, father in law, brother)! If you are in a hurry, use bacon bits. Just as good and no messy bacon grease cleanup!

Buttermilk Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
This is a good pound cake. Buttermilk pound cake is a very southern dessert. I always omit the lemon extract and use more vanilla. I have also used butter extract, rum extract, coconut and almond. All are really good. Sometimes I top the cake with a rum or chocolate glaze. YUM. For the reviewers rating low and saying this cake is too dense, etc. That's what pound cake is! they don't call it "pound" cake for nothing. I've never had a pound cake that was light & fluffy. If you want that, try angel food cake.

Vegetarian Chickpea Sandwich Filling

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
This is really tasty! First time I made it I added a touch of garlic powder and curry. Topped with cucumbers instead of lettuce and served on crusty Italian bread. Man O man was it good. Second time I added a spicy chipolte seasoning, omitted the onion, added more lemon juice and garlic salt. Toasted french bread slices with some melted butter and topped the bread with the filling. Served them at a party as an appetizer and holy cow! everyone LOVED them. Even the meat eating men! You can even puree the spread in your food processor and serve with crackers as a dip! YUMMY

No Bake Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
This is very sweet but very good. I made my own graham cracker crust and topped the finished pie with crumbled Reeses Pnut butter cups and Hershey's chocolate syrup. it's also really good with chopped peanuts. Tastes just like a Reese's Peanut Butter cup!! My husband and nephew loved it.

Honey Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
I have had the famous honey baked hams before. I like them but trust me, this recipe is just as good, if not better. Plus you save money! I have used whole cloves and sometimes add ground cloves to the honey mixture and baste on. Either way, it's good. I also use dark brown sugar in lieu of the corn syrup and increase the honey a bit. I think it makes for a better tasting ham. After taking my ham out of the fridge, I brush on some of the glaze and let it sit out for about 60 mins before baking. That way the inside of the ham won't be cold and the outside hot.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
Made this for christmas eve. I'm personally not a big chocolate fan but I had several people coming to my dinner, who were. So I tried this recipe due to the reviews. It was good but VERY rich & chocolatey. My chocolate loving niece said it was so good but she couldn't finish all of it, due to how rich it was. I topped it with the satiny chocolate glaze from this site. Next time I might try a cream cheese topping? or another flavor to balance out all the chocolate going on.

After-Thanksgiving Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2010
Hmm. this soup really has no flavor whatsoever. I added salt, garlic salt, garlic powder and turkey seasoning (sage, etc) and it was still bland. It makes a ton too. So now I have soup that won't get eaten and I have no idea what else I can do to it, to make it better!

Hot Buttered Rum Batter

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2010
I have been really sick with a horrible cold that I can't seem to shake. While purusing allrecipes the other night I really wanted to find a hot drink to warm my insides and help me sleep. I love hot buttered rum and when I saw this recipe it sounded really yummy. My husband made it for me last night and I will tell you it made me sleep like a baby! I felt so warmed up and helped loosen my sinuses enough that I could get some decent sleep. Not saying it's a cure all for what ails you, but it sure can't hurt! Plus it tastes sooooo good! I plan on making more of these on xmas! thanks

Sweet Potato, Carrot, Apple, and Red Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2010
This was good but a bit bland for our taste. I added garlic powder and more chili powder and a touch of cayenne. I think it could have used more on top of what I already added! It was healthy for sure, especially if you leave out the butter and use olive oil instead. I will keep it on file.

Easy Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2010
This is really good but definitely needed an extra punch to it for me & my husband. We like spicy. First time I made it I added red pepper flakes, cayenne, 3 cloves of garlic and a dash of hot sauce. YUM..second time I added a fresh diced jalapeno, double YUM! it's a very good base recipe to add what you want to it. Next time I will try adding a bit of cumin and maybe cilantro?

Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2010
This is a great cranberry sauce recipe. It's simple but so good. I always add a cinnamon stick while cooking. Sometimes I even add a splash of grand marnier or a couple TBS. of orange marmalade.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2010
I have made this stuffing a few times but I add my own twist to it. I leave out the sausage for one. Personally, I don't like meat of any kind in my stuffing. Plus, I think it overpowers the turkey, the main star. I add golden raisins, chopped & toasted pecans, leave out the turkey liver and use chicken broth. I also only use FRESH herbs. I sometimes even add roasted chestnuts and/or mushrooms. There are a lot of things you can do to this recipe! All in all it's a very good base. Happy Thanksgiving!
