Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
SO GOOD! I didn't fry mine tho, I baked them in the oven. Also, I kicked up the heat with the seasonings and spices since we like our stuff hot and spicy here. I used a mixture of Crystal brand Louisiana style hot sauce & Frank's X-hot hot sauce. Big hit at superbowl!! WAY TO GO GIANTS!! *UPDATE* I usually bake these but decided to fry them this past Superbowl. I actually prefer them baked! They came out way too greasy, fried. They have great flavor tho and everyone I know who tries them, loves them!

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2008
This is a good recipe for sloppy Joe's. I have made it several times and my nephew requests it when he comes over. I omit the green pepper, since my husband doesn't like them, and some times I add red pepper flakes for a bit of a kick. I also butter my hamburger buns and sprinkle them with garlic salt. Really good!

Old Fashioned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2008
I lost my mom's recipe for potato salad and her's was the best. I found this recipe and it seemed as close to her's as possible so I decided to try it. It was pretty good but still not like my mom's. Also, it needs more mayo. I also regret putting the relish in, because it made the salad way too sweet. So I added more seasoning salt to balance the sweetness. I may try this recipe again but I will definitely omit the relish and add more mayo.

Mexican Rice III

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2008
Good flavor but not enough liquid. Mine dried out before the cooking time was up and the rice didn't cook all the way. So I was left with pieces of uncooked rice mixed with cooked. Also instead of using fresh tomato I used 1/2 a can of diced tomatoes, drained. I also left out the bell pepper. Had a good flavor so I will try one more time but definitely use more broth.

Angie's Dad's Best Cabbage Coleslaw

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2008
I have made this twice now, trying a second time because I didn't like it too much the first time and thought maybe I would give it another try. Based on the reviews. And I still think it's way too much sugar and way too much dressing. I personally don't know what all the rave is about. I guess I am partial to my mom and gramma's coleslaw, which is the kind they serve on pulled pork in their home town of NC. I won't try this one again, sorry.

Pat's Mushroom Saute

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2008
These were good but a little bland for my taste. They definitely needed a little salt, so I added garlic salt. I also added more fresh garlic and used baby bella mushrooms too because that is all I had on hand.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2008
Pretty good Lasagna. I have made it twice now and both times I used spicy Italian sausage, threw in some red pepper flakes and no-boil Lasagna noodles. First time I didn't cut back on the salt and it was way too salty. Second time I used about 1 tsp and it was way better. I still think my mom's was/is the best, but this ranked second.

Hummus III

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2008
Very good! I only had one can of garbanzo beans, but it still came out excellent. I also added more garlic since I am a garlic lover.

Caramelized Brussels Sprouts with Pistachios

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2008
Very tasty! I used 2 lbs of fresh baby brussel sprouts cut in half, 1/2 stick of unsalted butter, 1 red onion and didnt have any red wine vinegar so I used rice wine vinegar. I usually am not a big brussel sprouts fan, but these are really really tasty and I loved them!

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2008
Really good taste and very moist. Almost too moist. I used four 7 x 3" pans and baked them for an hour, it still wasnt enough time. They were still wet in the middle so put them back in the oven for 10 more mins. Came out great tasting but the cooking time is off.

Souvlaki

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2008
Outstanding!! I made mine with chicken and marinated most the day. My husband said on a scale of 1-10, he would give it a 20. I didnt marinate my onions but basted them with olive oil. Put them on seperate skewers and broiled all of it since it was raining outside and I was unable to use the grill. So good and definitely a keeper!

Baklava

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2008
This has a wonderful taste. Ive never been a huge Baklava fan, but decided to make this for dessert for the final finale to a Greek meal I made. I have since changed my mind about Baklava! Very good! I didnt have Phyllo dough and had to use Puff Pastry that I had on hand. Im sure it is 100 times better with Phyllo dough and will definitely make it again using the correct dough. But despite that, its excellent!

Ranch Dressing II

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
Oh my Gosh! This is the BEST ranch dressing ever. I will never buy store bought dressing again. I added a bit of milk to thin it out for salad dressing and didnt have dried chives, just fresh. Next time I will try it with buttermilk and use all fresh herbs from my garden. Tasted wonderful. My hubby loved it, I loved it. Definitely a keeper, thanks!

Kickin' Collard Greens

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2007
These are really good! My mother and grandmother were both from the south and made the best greens ever. I accidentally misplaced their recipe and in a panic to find a greens recipe, found this one. It comes pretty close to theirs and tastes great! I serve mine with vinegar and Louisiana hot sauce. I will be making them on New Years day with black eyed peas.

Make Ahead French Toast

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2007
This was DELICIOUS! I put it together 2 hours before Christmas brunch and it came out perfect. I think it would have been too soggy if I left it overnight. I also ran out of 1/2 & 1/2 so I used a mixure of cream and 2% milk. I also poured some of the mixture over the bread and did cut my bread a little thicker then the recipe says and added cinnamon to the batter. My inlaws and husband were very impressed. I served this with a ham, onion and cheese frittata I make. This recipe is definitely a keeper!

Candied Sweet Potatoes

These were really good but really sweet! I used butter instead of margarine and didnt top with marshmallows. I think I will follow other reviewers and cut back on the butter next time. Other then that they are very very good!

Pretzel Turtles

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2007
Very good and easy to make. I knocked about 80 out in no time. Going to put them in christmas baskets with cookies, wine, etc I made. I preferred the Dove chocolates vs the Rolo's. And I tried both. I also had my husband taste test and he said the Rolo's were salty tasting. The Rolo's also started leaning on the pretzel and melted all over, didnt come out as pretty as the Dove's.

Gingerbread Coffee

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2007
Really good but my husband and I weren't tasting a lot of gingerbread flavor. Maybe our coffee was too strong, or we will have to use more mix next time. We were bad and used real whipping cream in place of the 1/2 & 1/2 and omitted the whipped cream. All in all it was really tasty and great for the holidays.

Black Bean Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2007
So good! I made another black bean soup on this site and it was terrible. So, I gave this one a try and was very happy. Has a great taste and is really easy. Nice soup for those nights you dont have a lot of time. I made Jalapeno cheese bread to serve along side of it, topped the soup with sour cream and cheese. My hubby loved it.
