I'm a computer geek by day, and a pretty accomplished cook by night. ;-)
My favorite things to cook
Lower calorie and lower fat meals. I like to come up with very hearty meals that can be serfved on their own, or just with a salad.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother always made something called Monkey Bread (aka Hungarian Coffee Cake, or Pull-apart Bread) for breakfast on Christmas morning. It filled the house with what I can only call, "the smell of love"!!! I miss her very deeply, but I still make this every Christmas to keep the tradition alive. Plus, it is really great... even though it is very calorie-rific!!!!
My cooking triumphs
I made my own wedding cake. I followed recipes from "The Cake Bible", and they were great!!. It was a three tiered cake where the layers were trimmed into a hexagons. Then tipped in against each face were piped latice work of royal icing with roses in the centers. It is one of the cakes featured in the illustrations of the cookbook.. though altered to fit our needs. "Neo Classic" chocolate buttercream and mocha buttercream were used between the torted layers. Outside was a plain buttercream which gives that wonderful ivory color. WONDERFUL!!!
My cooking tragedies
Porcupine meatballs when I was about 12... I used way too much salt!!! That was when I learned between a tsp and a Tbsp. LOL
