Raisin' the Dead Snack Mix

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
Almost 5 stars, but this would have been a bit too sweet. I balanced it out by using plain pretzel sticks (the thin kind) and omitting the chocolate chips. YUM YUM YUM! Everyone at work loved it.

Chicken with Figs in a Port Wine Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
I had never cooked with figs before last week, and this was one of my first attempts. This is a good recipe, but it needs to be developed further. The sauce doesn't have much of a taste, and I would prefer the chicken to have more of a crust. Thanks for a great starting point, though!

Spinach and Mushroom Frittata

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2008
I liked this, my BF loved it. Very good for people on the South Beach Diet, like we are! You could mix up the ingredients if you don't like mushrooms, or if you have something else on hand you need to use up. Make an extra and freeze it!

Benne Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2008
These are very delicious! Don't forget to toast the sesame seeds before adding to the batter, it makes a big difference in taste. These spread a lot while baking; use only a scant teaspoonful, and only put about 12 cookies on a sheet. I alternated between parchment paper and a Silpat on my baking sheets. I found that 25-30 minutes is WAY TOO LONG to bake these. The cookies became far too dark and crisp. I baked them for about 12 minutes. Also, you will want to definitely leave the cookies on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before attempting to remove them. I will be making these again, they were a big hit! Awesome Turkey Giblet Stock

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
I wasn't going to make turkey stock, but this morning I decided at the last minute that I would like to give it a shot. Thanks for sharing this recipe, it turned out great! It is very easy to whip up while the turkey is in the oven. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Pan de Muertos (Mexican Bread of the Dead)

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
Like many other reviewers, I don't normally go for anise/licorice flavors. But since everyone here had only good things to say, I gave it a shot! It is very delicious! The anise is noticeable, but not in a bad way. If you eat the bread right away, it is like having a fresh yeast doughnut! It isn't the sort of thing I normally like, but I can totally see myself making this every now and then. I will certainly be making this for next year's Day of the Dead celebration!

Fig Cake I

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
Very good! I love making cakes with buttermilk, they come out so moist and rich. Like other reviewers mentioned, the fig taste is understated. I wonder if that would change if we used dried figs?

Ricotta Gnocchi

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2008
These were so delicious. I had these over six months ago and recently had a hankering for them! They are easy to make and I'd be willing to bet they'd freeze ok for a few days.

Gorgonzola-Garlic Dip

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2008
I too could only find a 5 oz container of cheese. Plus, I thought I had a red onion on hand, but only had yellow, so that is what I used. I am not the biggest fan of bleu cheese, but my boyfriend could not get enough! He wants me to make hamburgers for dinner tonight so he can top them with this dip. In the future, I may cut the intensity with some other more mild cheese or sour cream like another reviewer suggested.

Chili Dog Casserole II

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
I never thought of a chili dog casserole! Yum. I enjoyed this recipe, but it was a bit much. I'd only make this for Super Bowl parties or similar events.

YUM! This is the first time I've cooked with figs, and it was a great introduction. I will be celebrating National Fig Week (Nov 1-7) with this recipe!

Great! Once again I forgot to pick up the packet at the store. What a great way to use all those spices I have in my cabinet.
