Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2011
AMAZING! So nice to have an icing that isn't sickly sweet. Almost tastes like cheesecake filing. Will be making this again and again. My daughter, who HATES typical cake icing, loved this. I added 1 TBSPN raspberry jam and 1 tsp almond extract to one batch, and to another I added 1 tsp. lime juice. SO Good! You can change this recipe up to flavour anyway you want. Because it's not so sweet, the flavours really come through.

Lemon Poppy Seed Bread

Reviewed: May 2, 2011
Very average. Used real lemon juice. Substituted lemon juice for orange juice, and added lemon zest. Still didn't have much lemon flavour and was very fluffy. Was looking for more of a pound cake texture to this. This recipe was more cake-like.

Korean BBQ Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: May 2, 2011
Way too salty. I normally like things on the salty side, but this was too much. Would use low sodium soya sauce next time, or reduce substantially. Also will try brown sugar instead of white next time. Added fresh minced garlic, sesame oil, sesame seeds and used hot chile peppers in place of the chile paste.

Blueberry Crumb Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2010
Used margarine instead of shortening. Added 1 tsp lemon juice to half of crumb mixture to use as base. Used frozen blueberries (did not thaw). Did not use salt. Next time I will not add sugar to blueberry mixture as it was VERY sweet.

Birdseed Treats

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
This recipe is awesome! I followed the ingredients exactly as written, however I put it into a slightly smaller pan which I'm glad I did. You don't really taste the peanut butter alot - as my PB hating daughter can attest. Will be adding this to my recipe book. Might try adding in some pumpkin seeds too.

Fabulous Homemade Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
This bread was pretty good. Nothing incredible, just really good, basic bread. We're having to cut costs and this recipe helps, plus homemade bread is wonderful. I mixed mine in my Kitchen Aid and it went well - though I recommend doing a minute or two of hand kneading to mix in all the little bits. Made just one loaf and a whole bunch of buns that I made in muffin tins. Next time I want to add some herbs & spices, or maybe some seeds for different tastes. But as is it makes very good sandwich bread. Also good if you make thick slices and make into garlic bread.

Marinated Spicy Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2008
I used 3 cloves of fresh garlic instead of the powder and chili powder instead of the sauce (since I didn't have any). It was OK, but certainly not spicy by any means. It tasted fine but was very average. I'll make again, but it isn't something I'd make to impress.

Tortilla Rollups II

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2008
I forgot about the green onions, but they were a hit anyway. I used alot more salsa than was called for - about 1 - 1 1/2 cups. And I also added quite a bit of cilantro which gave it a very fresh taste. Used sundried tomato and spinach tortillas and it made a VERY pretty display.

Ali's Amazing Bruschetta

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2007
Mmmmmmm - very good. This was my first time ever making bruchetta (or having it outside of a restaurant). It was great, very fresh tasting. I added a little bit of garlic salt, but probably next time I'll add freshed minced garlic to boost flavor a bit. I had no problems with the bread going soggy. Used french bread because that was all I could get, but I don't recommend that because it didn't slice up well.

Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2007
This recipe was great. Made it for the first time for company so was kind of nervous but they all liked it. The meat was very tender. Will make again, and I didn't make any changes.

Gingerbread Biscotti

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2006
These were quite good. I only baked for 20 min - 25 would have been too long. Also I only baked for 9 min the second time (didn't turn them and bake again). They were the perfect firmness for me - could eat them without dunking but stayed together when dunked as well. Nice flavour, very gingerbready. Could use a sweet topping to finish them off - I think I'll try an icing on them (like gingerbread cookies). Were a little hard to get all mixed together, but that could have been made more difficult due to the bowl size I used - recommend a nice wide large bowl so you can really get in there.

Double Chocolate Biscotti

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2006
Very nice! I used White Choc. Chips instead of the squares. Giving them out at a bake exchange so they're in the freezer, but will drizzle with white chocolate (or maybe even both) before giving away. I messed up the oven temp. so they came out almost burned, but apparently they taste good so I will make again properly this time :).

Cranberry Pistachio Biscotti

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2006
Worth all 5 stars. I made 5 different Biscotti in one day and this one came out on top. I substituted sliced almonds for the pistachios. Also increased cranberries to 1 cup and reduced nuts to only 1 cup. This is THE prettiest biscotti I made. The kids made a batch for themselves and didn't do the 2nd baking time because they liked them soft.

Cinnamon Sugar Biscotti

These were liked by the family. I haven't personally tasted them, but did think they felt a little harder than I like. Next time I will bake for only about 10 min on the 2nd baking.

Navy Bean Soup I

This soup is FANTASTIC! It has a little zip to it which is very nice. The only thing I changed was to add some carrots. I've made this a few times and it will stay in my recipe box.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2006
I only give this a 4 because there are changes to the recipe that MUST be made (in my opinion). First off, before putting in the apples - mix them with 2 tsp. cornstarch and 1 tsp cinnamon. To the sauce, add 1 tbspn. vanilla & 2 tsp. cinnamon - possibly some nutmeg too. Pour half the mixture on before putting on the top crust (I did the lattice - it's so pretty). This is a fair amount of work, but the family loves it.

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2006
I accidentally used a 20 oz. can of pumpkin, but I would definitely do that again. It turned out so big and fluffy - my family loved it. The pie was SO deep. Also I used a bit more of each of the spices - about double.

Honey Mustard Dressing II

I've avoided buying this stuff from the store because it's SOOO expensive, but making this recipe is much cheaper and it tastes just as good! I used low-fat mayo to save calories and it was AWESOME!!!!! I'll definitely make this again.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
EXCELLENT! Used chicken breasts and subsituted white wine vinegar for the cider vinegar. Doubled the sauce, but had over half of it left over which is fine because it's VERY good and I'll use it up with other meals.
