About this Cook
I'm a ph.D. student with a love for cooking and baking...
My favorite things to cook
I really like experimenting and trying new things. Mostly, I cook inspired by recipes but not following them exactly.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Oh, there are many. My mom used to bake whole wheat easter buns with my brother and me and we always had a great time forming the dough into strange shapes. My dad enjoys cooking too and he usually prepared a special dinner on the weekend. And sometimes he played "restaurant" with my brother and me when we were little. He even wrote a menu we could choose from, giving fancy names to simple things such as "golden dew" for apple juice...
My cooking triumphs
Not exactly a cooking triumph, but a triumph after all: my mother calling me to ask for a recipe - until then it had always been the other way round...
My cooking tragedies
I don't really know. I have messed up a lot of things, I have burned many cakes and I tend to use too little salt. But I prefer to forget my cooking tragedies and concentrate on the next recipe I try...

Pan Roasted Pork Tenderloin with a Blue Cheese and Olive Stuffing
This is a great recipe! It's easy to make and simply delicious (seriously, we licked our plates clean...). I made the recipe as is (only added some minced black olives because I didn't have enough tapenade) and served it with SpƤtzle and a salad on the side, it was really outstanding. My husband - who isn't a great fan of blue cheese - loved it too, but suggested next time we should try it with a good feta cheese and I think that would be great as well. Thank you very much for this fantastic recipe, Ryan!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie
Great cookies! I made these with extra dark coffee-flavoured chocolate chunks and they were perfect. I used only one cup of sugar (3/4 brown, 1/4 white) because I don't like my cookies too sweet, and only one egg because it was very big. After mixing the dough I followed another reviewer's advice and refrigerated it for a while. It was very easy to form the dough into balls and they spread beautifully while baking. This is the first cookie recipe that really turned out the way I expected and I`ll be using it from now on. Thanks for sharing!

Soup For Couscous
This is a great recipe! I only rated it four stars because I made some changes (but I'll try it as written next time): I didn't have fresh cilantro, so I used fresh parsley and mint instead, I added some minced garlic and canned tomatoes and it still turned out delicious. Oh, and I used ground cumin and hot Paprika because I didn't have turmeric. I will make this often, both with couscous and without. Thanks for sharing! UPDATE: I have made this soup quite often now, with varying ingredients (whatever I had on hand) and I really really love this recipe. It's very versatile and turns out delicious even if you substitute with whatever you have in your fridge/pantry/garden, just don't omit the hot sauce and the garbanzo beans. Bottom line: I changed my rating to five stars.
