Me and my High School Sweetheart
About this Cook
I am a Mother of 3 to 5(6) children (depending on the time of year :-) ). I'm recently re-married, and also recently dissabled. I have worked in Food Service since I was 16 (over 25 years). I've worked in restarants, deli's, concessions, fash food, School Food Service. I keep myself from dying of boredom, these days, by creating and maintaining my computer cook books.
My favorite things to cook
Right now, since it is hard for me to work in the kitchen unless I am able to sit on a stool or work at a table, it's cooky baking. I also am diddling in slow-roasting and braising, as well as creating my own meat rubs...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas and Holiday Baking... the tradition has been passed down to me from my grandmother Barbrey, and I have to say that I have pathetically failed the last 15 years... Now that I am starting over, I hope to be able to make it the full fledged tradition it was meant to be by Christmas 2010. I would have liked it to happen in 2008, but our Christmas Baking traditions start in January with Fruit Cake, canning in the summer, August starts the quick breads and some cookie doughs, and then November starts the hardcore baking... Woo Hoo. New traditions have also been added as a personal touch and that is with fudge and candy molding. My husband and I must get through some tough financial issues the rest of 2008 and part of 2009 (as I know many people are these days), but we hope and pray to be on track by the fall of 2009. At least we may get an abriviated version by next Christmas, and get my feet wet to start for the 2010 season. Keep us in your prayers...
My cooking triumphs
Currently, my BBQ rub... my daughter adores it and wants me to cook it in almost everything. She also wants me to bottle it and give it out as gifts this Christmas.
My cooking tragedies
Well, after taking a census from my family... I can truthfully say, that my family hasn't experienced any cooking tragedies in recent years from me. And, I can not recall having any in the last 10 to 15 years...

Cool Whipped Frosting
This is excellent served as a dip for fresh fruit (I also found this recipe originally as an icing for a "Very Berry Cake' on the side of a strawberry cake mix). I've used this type of icing recipe for years. Everone I've made it for, loved it and wanted the recipe. A quick hint for the one that said it tasted artificial, if you use a good vanilla, that usually takes the store bought artificial flavor out of the whipped topping. If you use a cheap artificial vanilla, thats what you get for flavor. Just something to think about. Love the easy variations you can make with this recipe, a very good recipe base to use to expand your imagination with. Thanks for sharing.
