Burrebrede (Scottish Shortbread)

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
Ugh! What a disappointment! I LOVE shortbread and LOVE the spices the recipe calls for, but this did not work! The shortbread itself was heavy and floury rather than light and melt-in-the-mouth. And I found the spices distracting rather than complimentary. Sorry, just not my cup of tea.

Whole Wheat Ginger Snaps

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
These were fabulous tasting- even better than my standby whole wheat ginger spice recipe- except dough not as versatile for shaping, merely rolling into balls.

Peppermint Bark

Very good; should have allowed the chocolate layer to set more before spreading white choco layer.

Sukhothai Pad Thai

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Best pad thai recipe I've tried but can only give 4 stars because I had to make changes: fish sauce instead of tamarind pulp; scallions and pickled onion instead of chives and oriental radish.

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Very good- made vegetarian with soy sausage and veg broth and still quite tasty. Only criticism is gigantic portion (too much for family of 6! and did not taste better with reheat) and and not enough broth/stuff ratio for our tastes.

Chocolate Toffee Crunchies

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
These are really really good! Don't try to cheat and microwave the butter and brown sugar together- turns out much better in a saucepan with very little extra effort:)

Navratan Korma

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
Still not perfect, but the best Navratan Korma I have ever made. Short on basmati rice and didn't have time to make naan, so served it with warmed pita bread. Worked pretty well!

Chicken Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken)

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Very good basic recipe, but added coriander, cardamom and pepper to suit my tastes.

Peanut Millet with Grilled Curried Vegetables

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
This was merely okay. Grain a bit thick and heavy and vegetables missing a certain zing (more lemon?) Tasted like something from the natural foods store- simple and wholesome but unexceptional.

Brick-Oven Pizza (Brooklyn Style)

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Wow! The crust is AMAZING (and I grew up around the corner from an old-school NY pizzeria)! Used a bit more (8-12oz) cheese though:)

Heavenly Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Perfect- less egg-y and more creamy than other recipes with just the right amt of sweet and chocolate.

Microwave Peanut Brittle

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Love LOVE this!!! SO easy that I have made it with my young children the last 3 xmases and it is as absolutely delicious as the more labor-intensive version.

Mint Chocolate Cookie Crunch

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
Very easy and pretty good but far from great. Texture a bit odd and mint flavor overpowering.

Simply Sensational Truffles

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
Very truffle-like texture but cream cheese flavor too strong. Husband liked but I did not. Then again I don't really care for cream cheese.

Microwave Oven Peanut Brittle

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
Wow! So easy and yet every bit as good as that made with the traditional labor-intensive method. No trouble with burnt peanut taste.
