Creole Shrimp

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2015
I cheat a little on this one by using Trader Joe's roasted garlic marinara sauce instead of the stewed tomatoes and sauce. Also, TJ's precooked bacon. But you have to take the time to make the roux! I throw the onion, garlic, red peppers, and parsley in my little chopper. Even minced up some little carrots and sun dried tomatoes in olive oil. Threw in some sliced mushrooms too. I don't add water. Maybe just a little wine or broth. Fabulous, rich sauce! For a special dinner, you can't beat it.

Banana Banana Bread

This is the best for the most banana flavor. It is easy to sub part whole wheat pastry flour to healthy it up a bit. Nice dense, rich banana burst.

Chicken Pot Pie VIII

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2013
In almost 45 years of cooking I don't think I have ever made a pot pie. Awesome recipe! Perfect sauce. I cheated and used premade crust but this deserves homemade next time. I also steamed the potatoes and other vegies ahead of time so I could use bigger chunks. This will be added to the rotation. I made extra filling so I used a 9 x 13 dish.

Swedish Pastry

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2013
Been a favorite in my house for many, many years. I don't use the butter flavor but it might be good. Like other reviewer I also top with toasted sliced almonds. People are always impressed with this pastry. I just noticed that this says to bake for 55 minutes. I can't imagine. I make this a lot and 400 degrees for about 20 minutes is plenty. At 350 I think 45 minutes should be enough.

Brined and Roasted Whole Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2013
I buy my turkey already brined, but otherwise follow these directions. I think it turns out much better this way than the traditional 325 from the beginning.

Spicy Refrigerator Dill Pickles

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2013
I was skeptical on this one but so glad I tried it! I tripled the basic recipe and added some sweet red peppers, white onion chunks, jalapeño slices instead of red pepper flakes, extra garlic, some peas in the pod from my garden. I only used a small amount of sugar as I wanted dill pickles. I started eating the second day. Testing every day. Hoping they stay crunchy for the whole month. I only had pint jars and they don't hold much, but I used small pickling cukes. This is so easy and fun! Fun to give to friends who will want to try it also.

Lemony Chicken with Artichoke Hearts

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2012
I really wanted to like this more but I can't agree with the worcestershire sauce. I just felt that it overpowered the sauce. I remade it without and it was very good. I added mushrooms also.

Classic Tiramisu

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2011
I have made this many times and it is a great recipe. A little less sugar might be good. I use way more kahlua than called for. I don't bother to split the ladyfingers. I garnish with chocolate covered espresso beans. I get a lot of compliments on this one.

Mom's Best Peanut Brittle

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2010
First attempt at peanut brittle. Success!! Easy recipe to follow. I used almonds because that's what I had on hand. I followed reviewer's advice and did not add nuts until over 250*, especially since my nuts were roasted. If they are raw, earlier would probably be okay. I also cooked until almost 300* before adding butter, soda and used vanilla for more flavor. I'm inspired now to try different nuts and maybe give this for gifts!

Spaghetti Pie II

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2010
This is a fun recipe. It turns out really great. I used angel hair pasta which we prefer. My husband liked it and he supposedly does not like spaghetti! I made it in the 9 x 13 pan as suggested by others It's a keeper!

Breakfast Sausage Roll

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2010
Great recipe. I have been making a different version for many, many years. One loaf of dough and shaped into a wreath at Xmas. Or, fill with canned apples and cinnamon. Very versatile.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
I also used honey instead of corn syrup. They turned out great. Butterscotch chips too. No coconut. I'll try the flax and sesame seeds next time. This is such and easy, quick, somewhat healthy snack!

Delicious Black Bean Burritos

These are a healthy, tasty feast. I don't understand why the nutrition info says 30 grams of fat. Shouldn't be that high.

Pumpkin Dessert

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
I made this with spice cake mix and extra spices. It was very good, but keep thinking a crispier bottom would be better. Maybe a gingersnap crust. Anyway, it was an easy and good recipe.

Tantalizing Turkey and Blue Cheese Meatballs

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2008
This is a great recipe. I made it today and we loved it. I used chicken instead of turkey because we prefer it. I used 2 whole eggs instead of messing with the separating. Subbed Worcestershire for the soy sauce. I thought it would be a lot of pepper, but it was fine. Left out the chili powder but I will give it a try next time. Because I am lazy, I made 4 inch patties instead of 2 inch balls and just cooked a little longer. This one will get made a lot!!!

Addictive Pumpkin Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2008
I also cut this recipe in half. I have tweaked it so many times I forgot the original! I use all whole wheat PASTRY flour, extra cinn. & cloves, add some ground flax and sometimes bran. They are so much better for you than most muffins, and they taste so good. An all time favorite.

Sweet Mustard Chicken Bake

Loved this recipe! I made it on the stovetop. Cut way down on the butter. Sauteed some mushrooms and made the sauce separate. Added curry like someone suggested. This was great!
