Traditional White Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
I am usually the one who makes the bread in our hosue but since I've been busy lately, my husband decided to try his hand at it. This bread turned out so perfect that he has decided maybe he should be the one to make the bread from now on! This has definitely been added to my recipe box and will be my white bread recipe from now on!

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
Ok, can I tell you I've never made an apple pie completely from scratch before? I think the fact that my husband loves his Mom's apple pie has always deterred me. However, he loooooved this and said it was even better than "Mom's". I used Basic Flaky Pie Crust from this site. I used gala apples and added some cinnamon and apple pie spice which I just couldn't go without! I also got ahead of myself and poured the topping on the apples before I put the top crust on. Oops. It was amazingly delicious though! Thanks for sharing the recipe! I will definitely have this as my standard apple pie recipe now!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
This got a "you can definitely make this again!" from my husband and three boys. I loved it too. My first attempt at something like this. Very glad I found this recipe! I didn't have any celery seed on hand so I used some poultry seasoning instead. Very yummy. Also didn't have enough peas, so I added mixed frozen vegetables (carrots, peas, green beans). Delicious all the way around. I made the crusts and though they didn't look pretty, the homemade pastry sure added to the effect and flavour! Thanks for this wonderful recipe.

Linda's Monster Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2008
I have lost count of the number of times I have baked these awesome cookies! I love the fact that there is no peanut butter in them so they are "school friendly". We have made them for bake sales, and people rave about them. My kids even made some for their teachers this year for Christmas (our teachers accept homemade treats) and they loved them. I don't make any changes to the recipe other than I don't bake them for the full 10-11 minutes. Usually 8 minutes or so. Our family likes cookies on the chewier side, so I watch them closely as not to overbake them!

Grilled Bacon Jalapeno Wraps

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2008
I made these for our boxing day lunch and they were a hit! I used 12 peppers (24 halves) with only one package of cream cheese and had lots of filling! I split the cream cheese in half, left one half plain, and added the membranes and seeds from 6 jalapenos (all chopped up) to the other half. Some of the people in our family LOVE hot stuff, others of us not so much. We wrapped them in bacon, secured them with a toothpick, and made sure to cook the "hot" separate from the "not". We cooked them in the oven on a foil lined sheet with sides til the bacon was cooked and then watched them disappear off the trays! Excellent recipe. Sooo simple!

Mouth-Watering Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2008
Yum! I made them for boxing day at my sister-in-law's and everyone loved them! We were traveling, so I made the filling up ahead of time. I took the stems out and only washed them. I rewrapped the caps and didn't wash them til I was ready to cook them. I didn't have onion powder, so I diced up fresh onion and cooked it along with the garlic and stems. Once that was cooked, I split the mixture into two separate bowls and after it was cooled, I added 1/2 of each of the ingredients to each bowl. To one of the bowls I added a can of cocktail shrimp and a can of crabmeat. I covered the bowls, kept them chilled, and cooked the mushrooms 3 days later. They were fabulous. I will definitely be making these again! Bravo!

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2006
I make a dessert every Sunday night for my husband to take to a pot-luck barbeque at work. Yesterday I decided to make this cheesecake. Usually my husband will leave any leftover dessert at work for the next shift to enjoy, but this morning I found half of the cheesecake in the fridge. I was concerned that maybe everyone didn't like it and that's why he brought it home, but when I asked him about it, he said that it was the best dessert I had made so far. One of the people he works with is a lover of cheesecake and she said it was the best cheesecake she has ever had. He brought it home so our family can enjoy it too! I made a strawberry topping to go with it and it all worked out deliciously. I was so happy that they had all liked it that I had to try it for myself and ended up having a piece for breakfast! LOL. Absolutely delicious! I didn't have whole graham crackers, so I used the recipe of the graham cracker crumb box to make the crust. It all worked out perfectly. I am very pleased with how well it turned out. I can't wait til I have a reason to make it again!
