Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
I didn't realize how much this recipe would really make! We were eating leftovers for days (which wasn't bad because spaghetti always seems to taste better the next day). I doubt I will be making this again mostly because it took so long to make. The meatballs turned out really good but we didn't care too much for the sauce.

Easy Iced Coffee

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2009
Love it! I added 1/2 tsp. more sugar and 1/4 tsp. imitation vanilla. This is much cheaper than the expensive drinks sold at fancy coffee stores and tastes just as good! I will be using this recipe frequently if not daily.. thank you so much Christy.

Pepperoni Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2009
The bread (used pillsbury french loaf) was WAY too sweet for the recipe. The bread in the middle never really got finished cooking- I left it in the oven about ten more minutes trying to get the bread in the middle done but that made the top of it too dark. There was too much bread in the recipe anyway. The italian seasoning was overwhelming.. way too much of that as well. This was not at all what I expected. We did not enjoy this at all and I do not plan to make it again.

Aussie Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2009
I was too skeptical to make the honey mustard sauce in this recipe because it had so many mixed reviews! So I ended up using a jar of one of the really good brands of honey mustard from my grocery store. That also saved a lot of time ;) I also doubled the mushrooms because I had a lot of fresh mushrooms in my fridge that needed to be used. And I used some of Mrs. Dash's salt free table blend with the seasoning salt. This recipe was really easy to make and we loved it. I plan on making it again soon.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2009
This was my first attempt at making home made pancakes. I am only giving the recipe 4 stars because I don't think they were sweet enough.. after making one and tasting it I decided to add another tablespoon of sugar. The rest of the batch turned out absolutely delicious and would be worth a 5 star rating! I would also like to mention that I didn't use a sifter (because I don't have one) so I just mixed the dry ingredients together really good with a whisk until the mixture was smooth. After reading many of the reviews I decided on using only 1/2 tsp. salt. I also dropped some fresh blueberries into the pancakes as I was cooking them. I will definetly make this again and will no longer us a premade mix bought from the store. I do suggest you add the extra tablespoon of sugar if you like your pancakes on the sweeter side. Thanks for the great recipe Dakota!

Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
These were absolutely delicious! I didn't have nutmeg on hand so I just left that ingredient out. I don't think it made too much of a difference. I wouldn't change a thing!

Chicken and Bow Tie Pasta

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
The only changes I made to this recipe was to cut the chicken up into bite size peices and then sautee it in olive oil. I think boiling the chicken would have lacked flavor and would have turned out a little dry. Also I added fresh mushrooms I had on hand. I really loved the flavor of the chicken, broccoli and red bell pepper. I also love bow tie pasta. But the sauce wasn't at all what I had expect it to be. It was very bland. My fiance said he really liked the dish so I am giving it 3 stars. I may try this again only with a different sauce.

Cherry-Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2009
If I could give this recipe more than 5 stars I absolutely would! This was so delicious! I had a lot of fresh blueberries given to me and I was looking up recipes to use them in and this is the first one I tried. This is also the first fruit pie I have ever made. I just subsituted the fresh blueberries in place of the frozen. I did use a 12 oz. frozen pie crust instead of a 15 oz. refrigerated pie crust. I don't think it really made to much of a difference. The eggwhites brushed on and then sprinkled with sugar made it taste amazing. I did put tin foil over the edges so they wouldn't burn. The blueberries and the cherries mixed together tasted so good! I topped my piece with whipped cream and my fiance had vanilla ice cream with his. But it would be delicious by itself! I still have a ton of blueberries left and a lot of different recipes to try out but I plan to make this again soon! ::UPDATE:: I ended up freezing a lot of the fresh blueberries I had this summer. I have made this pie several times using fresh and several times using the same blueberries frozen. Even though the pie is delicious both ways it is better using the frozen blueberries! When using the frozen -you don't loose the blueberry taste to the cherry pie filling.

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2009
I skipped putting the ketchup in at all because of other reviews and it just didn't sound good to me. I did add a little more worcestershire than it called for maybe 4 tablespoons. After mixing up the gravy before I put it in the pan I added just one can of cream of mushroom soup to the mixture because what was called for just didn't seem like enough. Also I sliced up 5 fresh mushrooms and put it in with the gravy. This turned out really good. My fiance who said he doesn't even care for salisbury steak went back for seconds. The next time I try it I will make sure to drain the hamburger patties really really good before simmering with the gravy because it turned out a little too greasy for us. I didn't have any problems with the steaks falling apart. I think the trick is not to "handle" or flip them too much. We really did enjoy it and I do recommend this recipe!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2009
This was extremely good! I was also skeptical about cooking the chicken with only butter and the dry italian seasoning for so long at the beginning of the recipe.. but since I read the reviews first I followed the recipe exactly and it turned out perfect! The only think different I did was add only a tablespoon of sourcream and a little dash of milk to make it a little more creamy because the finished product seemed a little thick. We really enjoyed it and the leftovers didn't last long... Thanks for such a great recipe!

Oven Baked Potato Wedges

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
I took the advice of another reviewer and changed the cooking temp 450. The potato wedges turned were crispy on the outside and cooked on the insides.. I mixed the breadcrumbs with crushed up ranch flavored croutons.. I also brushed them with olive oil instead of butter. We absoloutly loved these! I can't wait to make them again and try different things to coat them with.

Sweet Potato Casserole II

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
Update- My original review was in 2008. I have made this recipe MANY times and tweaked it to make it the best ever! 1st, some of the reviewers say to bake the potatoes instead of boiling them. I've done it both ways and I prefer to boil them they do not taste better baked but NEVER used canned potatoes that will make a HUGE difference! I use at least 3.5-4 lbs. of potatoes. I whip them in a kitchenaid mixer with the flat beater. All the strings from the potatoes stick to the beater so I'm able to remove them - this makes the mixture smoother. 2nd, always use whole milk. I have used evaporated milk, etc - whole milk is always better. 3rd, I also add a few light dashes of cinnamon to the potato mixture. 4th, on the topping I use 2 C. brown sugar, 1 C. flour, 1/2+ C. pecans and I keep the butter at 1/3 C. sometimes I may add a little more (1 T. or less) so the topping resembles cookie dough. Put it in a 9x13 pan and spoon the topping across. There will be a lot but it's worth it! Then bake for about 30-35 min. until the top is brown but not too hard. I have made it the night before just do the potato mixture as written, spoon it into the pan you are going to bake it in, wrap it up and keep it in the fridge. The next day all you have to do is make the topping and bake (45+ minutes) and it turns out just as great! This is my family's favorite dish and now with all these changes it's the best ever! People are always wanting this recipe! I hope this helps you!

Slow Cooker Creamed Corn

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
I made this for our familys Thanksgiving dinner. If you do not stir it frequently (repeat; FREQUENTLY) it will scorch! I cooked it on low for 5 hours and the texture of the corn was like rubber so if you make this I suggest you use fresh corn. And you should add more liquid (i used milk) because it won't come out too creamy. I'm giving it 3 stars because other people at the dinner "said" they liked it. However I did not care for it.
