Ash-e-jow (Iranian/Persian Barley Soup)

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2010
I found myself with a bag of barley and nothing to do with it, so went looking for an easy recipe. This soup is fantastic - easy, delicious, healthy and suitable for my vegetarian son (if you sub vegetable broth for the chicken broth). We all loved it and will be serving at a boxing day get together. I halved the recipe, used veggie broth, and used Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Great recipe! changes other than the broth,

Crispy Vegetable Pakoras

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
These were amazing. I grated carrots and zucchini, chopped onion, red pepper and parsnip. I mixed it with the flour and water batter and droped by spoonsful into the hot oil. The seasonsings in the recipe were delicious - didn't change anything. Great flavour, easy to make, definitely a keeper! Thanks veggigoddess.

Crispy Barbequed Tofu Slices

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2009
My 15 yr old son decided on Tuesday that he wants to be vegetarian. I love a challenge so I started looking for tofu recipes and found this one..and I'm glad I did. I followed all the steps but also pressed the water out for a couple of hours and yes, the whole process (press, freeze, thaw, fry, bake) takes a long time. But I have to say was definitely worth it. Next time, I'll slice thinner and fry a little longer as it could have been crispier for our taste. My son had it with lettuce and tomato on a bun and he really liked it - hubby and I just had it on its own. We'll definitely have this again.

Unbelievable Fish Batter

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2009
I made this batter for basa fillets, and served with hand cut fries, Tartar Sauce II from this site, mushy peas and cole slaw. Delicious. Hubby wants this for EVERY birthday dinner. I added a little Old Bay but I don't think it really needed it. The batter seemed really thick, so I added maybe a 1/4 c more water. As for the baking soda, I may have cut it back a little, but I didn't taste it at all. Great recipe - a keeper for sure.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2009
I was looking for something quick for dinner and found this. Definitely a keeper. We're trying to eat clean so the sugar was a no go but I used maple syrup instead and it was awesome. I just didn't make enough!! Very very good chicken.

Peach-a-Berry Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2007
I made a couple of minor changes. I was out of cinnamon so I used some ground cloves and nutmeg instead - quite good. I also subsituted Splenda for the sugar which I regretted because I could taste the Splenda. The filling consistency was perfect. Great Pie!

Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2007
I also used only one can of beans. I knew this was a keeper when my 12year old son asked when I was going to make it again. Everyone loved it! And it's sooooo easy to make.

Greek Style Potatoes

These were easy to make, and I followed others' advice and used less liquid and let them dry out more at the end. Quite good.

Tzatziki II

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2007
Excellent! I had only about 2.5 hours to drain the yogurt and it worked great. We used this as a dip for pita triangles. The kids didn't really like it but the adults loved it. Will definitely make this again.

Grecian Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2007
Awesome - guests asked for the recipe. I used lemon juice instead of lime juice because it's what I had on hand, and used lots of fresh oregano and a bit of dried. Reaally really good.

Ginger Beef Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2007
Very Good! Family loved it, including my 12 yr old who 'hates' stirfrys. I didn't have any peanuts so I used seasoned sunflower seeds instead. I also used sesame oil instead of vegetable oil for frying. One more change - I had no brocolli on hand so I used extra peppers and a bit of celery. Will definitely make this again! Don't be tempted to leave out the pepper flakes as it adds a nice amount of 'zing'.

Caribbean-Spiced Pork Side Ribs

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2007
I've made this twice now, and we can't get enough! I added a little Jamaican jerk spice to the rub, and cut back a little on the pepper the 2nd time I made it. Rave reviews from family and dinner guests.
