Caramel Apple Pie I

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
Left out the nuts, did everything else as stated in the recipe. Super sweet, but pretty good with ice cream on top. Yummy! Looked, smelled, and tasted great. Had to make more the next day!

Very very good. Next time I'm going to double up the stuffing so I can have some the next day.

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2009
I was looking for something similar to P F Chang's lettuce wraps, but this sounded best of all the recipes I found. While it's not like the restaurant wraps at all, it is SO good! I actually PREFER these. YUMMY.

Famous Japanese Restaurant-Style Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2009
I was craving the salad dressing from my favorite Japanese steakhouse, and this looked like a match. It was good, but not quite there. I think next time I need to add a little salt, and I could taste the ketchup so maybe that should be decreased just a tad. I think it would lack something if the ketchup was left out completely. It helped my craving, and is a great starter recipe. Thanks.

Mid-Summer Italian Bread Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
This is awesome. A diner near where I used to work served something similar to this as a special once a month. They would add some chunks of Mozzerella and some squash or zucchini as well. Yummy.

Guacamole

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2008
I'm extremely picky about guacamole, and my favorite restaurant is over an hour away. So when I recently had a craving, I searched this site for recipes. I came across a few that sounded good, but this one had all the ingredients I would expect. I did take other reviewer's advice and added a touch of cumin. And my avocados were tiny, so I used only one tomato. Very very good. I wouldn't change a thing! Thanks so much for the recipe!

Funnel Cakes I

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2008
I made this yesterday for my very picky mother who was craving carnival food. I've tried a few other funnel cake recipes, and all were okay, but this one was really really good. My batter came out a bit runny, but I had used extra large eggs, so I added another 1/4 cup of flour and it was perfect. Per other reviewers suggestions, I added about 2 tablespoons of sugar and a dash of vanilla. It was absolutely perfect. In fact, she has requested that I make them again today! Thanks for such a simple and tasty recipe.

My Own Famous Stuffed Grape Leaves

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2007
This is the first time I've ever tried making grape leaves, and let me tell you, the outcome wasn't pretty. LOL. However, the taste was out of this world. It was the perfect blend of lemon and dill and YUM. I didn't have the mint, but I will definitely make sure I have some next time as I think it would be a wonderful addition. Thanks for such a super recipe.

Mississippi Six

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2007
I took this to a family picnic, and everyone loved it. I heated it in the microwave first, as others suggested, then spooned it into the bread and baked it about 30 min right before leaving the house so it would be nice and gooey for the picnic. It went over quite well. The only change I made was I used corned beef instead of dried beef. It's a very rich recipe, much thicker than I had imagined. Make sure you have a spoon to serve it with!

Filet Mignon with Rich Balsamic Glaze

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2007
MMMMM. Easy to make, doesn't take much time (other than waiting for the glaze to cook down), and oh so good. Paired it up with Balsamic mushroom caps and sooo awesome.

Mock Champagne

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2007
I made this yesterday for a baby shower. The guest of honor wanted something sparkling, not too sweet, and simple. I did not do the ice ring because I did not have time, but it was fine adding regular ice cubes to it. I used just the one 2-liter of ginger ale in it, and it was delicious! Everyone loved it, some asked for the recipe. It was quick and easy and just sweet enough with a touch of fizz. And one of the guests added a bit of vodka to his glass - said it was terrific that way, too!

Fruited Curry Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
The fruit and curry combination in this creamy salad was perfect. I omitted the pecans because I don't like nuts in my food and also omitted the apple because I didn't have any on hand. I used low fat mayo and it came out perfect! Thanks for the recipe.

Savory Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2007
I made these for New Years Eve. I followed others' suggestions for adding a bit of minced garlic and also left out the egg. Although it was a bit difficult to stuff because there was nothing to bind it together (the egg's job, I suppose), it was no more difficult than any other stuffed mushroom I've made. I had rave reviews, and have been asked for the recipe. They went quickly! Thanks for the recipe.

Balsamic Glazed Carrots

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2006
I love balsamic vinegar on just about anything. Perhaps I did something wrong. It was too strong a taste and nobody in my house liked it.

Ho Ho Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2006
This is a super easy recipe, and my kids love it! I am not real happy about the egg, so I buy regular canned chocolate frosting and microwave it about 30 seconds to make it kinda runny, then just pour it on top. Takes less time and my mind is at ease. After making it 3 nights in one week, I told the kids they would have to make it themselves, and they did!

Grated Potato Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2006
This is the long lost recipe my gram used for many years, except she always added an egg. Her family moved from Hungary to Germany, then to the United States. We never really had a name for the dish she prepared, but she would make these potato dumplings, then fry them with cottage cheese. It never sounded (or looked) very appetizing, but it was oh so good tasting! Extremely fattening, and off my diet plan, this is a birthday/special occasion treat. Thanks for the memories!

Broccoli Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2005
My youngest daughter, who is 6, LOVES broccoli. Everytime we go out to eat, she asks if they have Broccoli Cheese soup. So, to surprise her, my husband (the cook in the family) made this soup. She loves it! Everyone did, in fact (except my 11 year old, who thinks anything green will kill him). The one thing I thought was missing was that "real cheddar" taste. So I sprinkled on some taco cheese (it was as close to cheddar as I had at home) and it helped dramatically. We cut the chicken broth in half, as others suggested, and completely left out the garlic, as my daughter isn't a fan of it. We also used cream in place of the milk and 1/2 cup of cornstarch. It was perfect! I would recommend this to anyone! And the best part is you're using frozen broccoli, so you don't spend a lot of time chopping and it's ready in no time!

Cream of Mushroom Soup I

I wish I could give this recipe more than 5 stars. My hubby will make this as a surprise for me if I've had a bad day or if he's planning a weekend of hunting or fishing that he has to tell me about....LOL...

Praline Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2004
I made this for Easter dinner. I LOVE sweet potatoes, but hate the mess of "candying" them. This was the perfect solution. I used canned sweet potatoes to cut down on prep time and cut the sugar in half. I also just mixed all topping ingredients without the butter, then melted the butter and drizzled it on top. I also used only 1 egg, as I didn't want to take a chance on the dish being runny. It was excellent. Just sweet enough, and the vanilla added the perfect touch. Will make this often.

A Potato Salad Sandwich

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2004
I've done this for years. I don't like meat, and my family does, so this is a substitute for making a separate meal for myself. It's also delicious. Here in Pittsburgh it's acceptable to add coleslaw to your sandwich, but I get strange looks when I ask for a sandwich with JUST coleslaw, potato salad, or macaroni salad. Glad I'm not the only one!
