Supreme Strawberry Topping

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2010
This was the best strawberry topping I've ever had and so so easy to make. Reviewer MADHOUSENMICH had the perfect tips...I don't like mushy strawberries either! Thank you both for the wonderful recipe and the great tips!

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2010
My husband and I did not like this at all. It was very very bland and just tasted really off...nothing like stuffed cabbage we've had before. Not sure why it's rated so high but that's just my opinion :) I will continue to search for a good stuffed cabbage recipe.

Miso Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
I love miso soup but always wished that they gave larger size tofu pieces in the miso soups I've purchased in restaurants/stores. Now I can control the size of tofu I like in my miso soup, yay! Btw, I used firm tofu. I added spinach to my soup and it was yummy. Tasted just like the miso soup you get at restaurants. This really is a versatile recipe and I plan on trying different ingredients next time. My 3 yr old gobbled this up and left me with just a small bowl to bring to work the next day for lunch, lol! I will be doubling this recipe in the future! Thanks for the great recipe :)

Banana Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2009
Unfortunately, this pie didn't turn out very well for me. First, I used one of the reviewer's suggestion and made a vanilla wafer crust. I must have made it too thick or over-baked the crust (prob more so the latter) because we couldn't cut through it. In my opinion the pudding/filling was too vanilla-y tasting. I would have preferred banana pudding. Next time I would try to find banana extract and use that instead. Also, my pudding was on the thick side. A bit too thick for my preference. I also thought this was way too sweet. Obviously I did something wrong because I'm in the minority here! I was so disappointed because I LOVE banana cream pie. It's one of my favorite desserts. The BEST banana cream pie I ever had was at Angelo's bakery on 86th Street in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. I was never allowed at any family parties unless I brought that pie with me, LOL! So sad that bakery is now closed... If I find banana extract, I will try this recipe again!

Gelatin Poke Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2008
I made this cake yesterday and it is so easy to put together. I thought it could've been a little more flavorful. I used strawberry gelatin and I was really hoping to taste more of the strawberry gelatin but I have to say it is a very moist cake and it does look pretty! I also like the fact that it's a refrigerated box cake so it's nice and cold on a hot summer day. My family enjoyed it. Next time maybe I'll reduce the water a little bit to make the gelatin flavor more concentrated. Thanks for the great and easy recipe!!

Unbelievable Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2008
I thought this was good but certainly not unbelievable. I marinated the chix overnight and cut it up into pieces and made chix kebobs. It wasn't as flavorful as we thought it would be. If I make this again, I think I will reserve some marinade to brush on the chix while it's cooking. I was really disappointed since there were so many good reviews for this recipe :(

Penne with Garlicky Broccolini

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2008
This was delicious with a few changes. I used 8 slices of bacon (by accident) instead of 6. I also used broccoli since I couldn't find broccolini. It's important to use good grated parmesan cheese. I cooked the broccoli a lot longer since my family and I like our broccoli more on the tender side (especially for my 2-yr old). I did notice that it was a bit on the dry side so I added some EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and sliced grape tomatoes. This was really good and everyone in my family loved it and couldn't get enough of it! They couldn't believe the few ingredients that went into this dish and how simple it was to make - this is a definite keeper. Thanks Skilletzilla for a great recipe!!

Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2007
These were really really good! As suggested by a reviewer, I added a box of Jello Instant Choc Pudding Mix and the cakes came out perfect (moist and delicious). I also used the reviewer's suggestion on the filling (1 box of confectioner sugar, 1 cup of shortening etc). The only problem I thought I had with the filling was when I was done whipping it, I tasted it and the shortening was over powering and didn't taste that great (seemed like way too much shortening). But when I assembled it together with the cakes I didn't taste the shortening, so in the end it came out great. Although, the next time I make these, I think I will cut down on the shortening... My husband really liked the whoopie pies which made me happy! :) Thanks to Amy for the recipe and to the reviewers for your suggestions, they were very helpful!!

Potato Salad I

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2007
This actually came out pretty good! I was a bit skeptical because of all the ingredients that went into this. I'm use to good old fashion potato salad and never had any with peppers or sweet pickles. I used 3 celery stalks instead of 4 (we're not big fans of celery) but I actually didn't even taste it in the potato salad. I also increased the mustard to 2 tablespoons and increased the mayo to 2 cups - we like mayo :) I only used 1/2 onion because it was a sweet onion and was a fairly large one. Lastly, I used 2 tsp white sugar. It was really good. I think the sweet pickles and mustard made a huge difference in this salad. Will definitely make again! Thanks for a great recipe Ellen!

Fish Fillets Italiano

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2007
Unfortunately, my family and I did not care for this. This was very dissapointing, especially since there were so many positive reviews. The presentation looked great but the fillets were very bland to us. I even added an extra clove of garlic and can of diced tomatoes. Maybe the fillets needed to marinate in something for a bit of time? It seemed like a very healthy dish so I was happy about that. It wasn't a complete waste, especially when the fillets were $15 a pound!

Chicken Pot Pie I

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2007
This was one of the best chicken pot pies I've ever had! As suggested by others, I: 1)used refrigerated pie crusts 2)cooked the bottom crust in pie plate for 10 mins at 350 degrees - *using a fork, poke several holes throughout so it doesn't puff up while baking 3)used frozen bag of mixed veggies - *I heated it up on the stove top before mixing it in with the other ingredients 4)used a can of cream of potato soup in place of the milk 5) brushed top crust with a beaten egg to give it a golden brown color 6)add'l seasonings added - garlic powder, salt and pepper 7)I used 2 chix breasts and poached it - cooked the chix in a pot of boiling chix broth for about 25 mins. My family really enjoyed it, but the only thing we noticed was it was a bit on the dry side. I think next time I'll also include the 1/2 cup of milk. Good and easy recipe - thanks Tressie!! I will sure make this again soon!

Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2006
I've never cared for cranberry sauce before until now! This is really delicious...I enjoyed it with my turkey this past Thanksgiving dinner. Didn't use any gravy at all and I love gravy. It's also very easy to make. I will never buy canned cranberry sauce again for my family! Like suggestions from some reviewers, I made it the day before so it thickened very nicely. I also added a little bit more sugar and OJ (my family likes things sweet). Thanks Toni for an awesome recipe!!

Basic Yankee Bread Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2006
First time making homemade stuffing, we'll never go back to store bought! Very easy to make. A bit salty so we didn't add it the second time around...I think the sausage makes it salty enough. We also added more chix broth since it came out a bit dry the first time. Second time around was perfect, so yummy!! Family enjoyed it! Kimberly, thanks for the great recipe!

Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2006
My husband and I thought the taste was a bit off and on the bland side. I believe it was off due to the worchestire sauce (first time we were ever cooking with it) and we didn't like it at all. I think it's a good recipe and we would've enjoyed it a lot more without the worchestire sauce and added more spices/seasoning...will try again. Thanks!

Potato Latkes I

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2006
These were really delicious! I doubled the onions and still needed more...I'll add more next time. I went with other reviewers and added garlic powder and only used 1 egg per 2 cups of shredded potatoes. It was a bit on the salty side so next time I'll reduce the salt. Very easy to make - great recipe...thanks Rachel!!!

Cheesecake Supreme

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2006
This is a great cheesecake recipe. I read other reviews and baked it at the times suggested. I didn't use a water bath and no cracks! The cheesecake is more on the dense side than others I've tried before, which works for me because I prefer a more dense cheesecake. Very rich cheesecake! I forgot to add vanilla which I believe would've added a nice flavor. I'll try it next time. My sister said she liked this cheesecake better than Juniors which is a great compliment! Thank you for the wonderful cheesecake recipe!!
