Baked Apple Turnovers

Reviewed: May 3, 2015
I will try this recipe again BUT I think next time I won't cook the apples in advance, or will cook them less. They were a bit too mushy for my taste. I used Granny Smith. Other than the texture, the taste was great - I appreciate the fact that this is a recipe that uses Splenda instead of sugar. Really nice.

Strawberry Spinach Salad I

Reviewed: May 3, 2015
Terrific salad. I left out the poppy and sesame seeds because they get stuck in your teeth. I don't think you need them - this recipe is delicious and turned out perfectly. Next time I might throw a little bacon in there for some salt to contrast the sweet dressing. Perfect as-is though.

Oven Pot Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2015
AMAZING!!!! I made this with vermouth - a lot of people who reviewed here had used wine. The vermouth made the flavor and aroma so rich, and there is no alcohol taste. Just yumminess. I doubled the gravy and added in chunks of carrots, potatoes, celery and onion about halfway through. The gravy MAKES. ITSELF. Nothing to add. My roast was a little dry but only because my guests arrived about an hour late. I thought I made more than enough but this 3.5 pound roast was devoured by 6 people. I will definitely make this again. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe.

Pistachio Cake III

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2015
This turned out fairly well for me. I had to improvise because the cake mix I had was a smaller amount. Baked it in a bundt pan and while it wasn't the prettiest looking cake I ever made, it was fun to cut into it and see the green color, and the taste was good and people came back for more.

Italian Breaded Pork Chops

This was easy and tasted great. Will definitely make it again. I served it with a lemon slice to squeeze over the chop. Delicious!

Marie's Easy Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2014
This is perfect. The only small change I made was instead of a packet of plain onion soup, I used Lipton's beefy onion. Super perfect and super easy.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2014
I made these exactly according to the recipe and they were terrific. I dropped about walnut sized scoops of dough on the cookie sheet and I would only say that mine took closer to 14 minutes to bake, not 10. I'll definitely make these again!

I made this recipe exactly as written a few times and also with some add-ins a few times. It turned out great each time. Moist and flavorful.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2014
This was excellent. A few things. I think 1 pound of stew meat does not make enough for 4 servings. This was more like a generous 2 servings or a medium 3 servings. So I plan to make this again, but will buy more meat next time so that I have more meat to serve and not so much left over, unused sauce. This is a recipe I plan to make and share because it was easy, delicious and smelled so wonderful while it was cooking. Next time I will throw in some sauteed mushrooms.

Cocktail Meatballs

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2013
I have never been asked for a recipe as much as this one. These were a total hit. I had lots to prepare for a party, so I did take a shortcut like some others here, and bought pre-made meatballs. Had these on my party table in a crockpot all night and my guests loved them. Nice that something so easy can be so great. :-)

Fluffy Pancakes

Liked this recipe. It made about 8 medium/small pancakes so you might consider doubling the volume.

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2013
It's great that something this simple and quick can taste this good. I used asiago cheese instead of parmesan (more flavor) and used garlic paste instead of crushed garlic. The chicken breasts I had were pretty thick even after pounding, so I cooked them more like 38 minutes at the temperature stated in the recipe - 425. They were perfectly done, and juicy.

Simply the Easiest Beef Brisket

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2013
I made a few changes that were recommended by previous reviewers and I can't believe how great this turned out. It smelled like heaven while it was cooking and the taste didn't disappoint. It was super-tender. The changes I made were: instead of sliced onion I mixed in a packet of dry onion and mushroom soup mix with the beer sauce. I used one room-temperature bottle of Sam Adams agave beer but I think any Sam Adams-type beer would work well. I used 1/2C brown sugar instead of the 3/4 C in the recipe. Finally, after I covered the dish with foil, I let it marinate on the counter for about 20 minutes before I put in in the oven, just to give the acidity in the sauce a chance to start working on the meat. LOVED this and I will be making this recipe all winter. :-)

Old-Fashioned Pancakes

This is a good basic recipe that's easy to modify to your own tastes. I prefer a thicker batter so just used 1C milk. Making these again today and will throw in some blueberries this time.

Greek Orzo Salad

Reviewed: May 19, 2013
This is excellent! I followed the recipe pretty much to the letter. The only change I made was to add the juice of one whole lemon. It makes a LOT. This is more like 10 servings (at least) not six. But it's yummy and I am sure would be a popular hit at anyone's cookout. YUM!

Scott Hibb's Amazing Whisky Grilled Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: May 19, 2013
This sauce is terrific! I dialed back a little on the salt and smoke, and used some garlic paste instead of garlic powder. What I got was a sauce that is bright and tangy - the flavor really pops and you can tell immediately that you're eating something just-made instead of a sauce that had been on the shelf in the grocery store for a long time. Be careful handling the ribs when you unwrap them - the foil will be full of hot juices, so plan ahead. Will make this recipe again, by popular demand!

Chicken Enchiladas I

Reviewed: May 11, 2013
I made this recipe exactly according to the original recipe, except I used fresh parsley instead of dry. It did seem too watery when the time came to fill the tortillas, so I added some more cheese to try to thicken it up - that did help a little. I would definitely omit the water if/when I make it again. The taste is great and you can pretty easily modify it to your tastes. I think next time I would add some corn and maybe try a different taco sauce (I used Chi Chi's). I liked the taste but it was a mess to manage.

Beef Pot Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2013
Terrific recipe. The roast I used was half a pound smaller than was called for by this recipe so I should have reduced the cooking time. Because I didn't it was a little dry, though not bad. I think if you follow this recipe exactly, including the weight of the meat, it would be perfect. I'll definitely make this again. It smelled heavenly while it was cooking and the taste of the gravy it made was fantastic. I used a garlic paste instead of minced garlic and would suggest that you try that.

Slow Cooker Barbeque

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2013
This was a hit for the Superbowl party. So easy, and it smelled and tasted great. I followed the directions exactly, except omitting the garlic powder (I didn't have any on hand). Will definitely make this again and next time will make more. I used Stubb's spicy bbq sauce. One 18oz jar of sauce was easily enough. I did have to skim some fat out of the cooker before shredding the beef, but it was easy to do.
