Fettuccini with Mushroom, Ham and Rose Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2011
As another reviewer stated, this was a party in my mouth! I had to sub light sour cream for the heavy cream as that was all I had. Also halved the herbs and left out the red pepper, otherwise my elderly mother would not have eaten it. I can only imagine how good it would have been if I made exactly as written. I don't normally like cream sauces, but this was fabulous, thank you for the recipe...I will definitely be making this again. Definitely restaurant quality flavour. As an FYI, I just heated up some leftover (2 days later), and it wasn't as flavourful as when fresh made. I will know for next time to make only what I need for those actually showing up for dinner...I can't wait to make this again...loved it!!

Ham Tetrazzini

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2010
This was very good!! I subbed chicken broth for the water (added a little extra), and used fettuccine noodles(what I had in the cupboard), and subbed chopped leftover green beans for pimento (didn't have) and put about a tablespoon of minced garlic, but otherwise followed to a T. Will definitely make this again...thank you very much! a GREAT way to use up my leftover roast ham.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2010
I meant to review this when I first made it, as this definitely deserves a five star rating for ease of preparation and taste!!! followed the recipe exactly except used a shoulder roast. Oh, yes, and what recipe requiring BBQ sauce is good with anything but Sweet Baby Ray's - YUM! Thanks for making me look good at the potluck!!!

Honey Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2010
Made this weekend for a potluck with rave reviews...used a bone in ham instead of a ready to eat, subbed 1/4 tsp ground cloves for the whole, 1/2 cup brown sugar for the corn syrup, big squirt of mustard and the juice from a tin of sliced pineapples and completely forgot to add the butter and turned out amazing...cooked in the crock on low for 6 hours instead of turning on the oven, Thanks Colleen - was told by many it was the best ham they ever had. I used a crock liner for my pot, but didn't really need it...mine was not sticky - maybe because of the pineapple juice? Update: made this again using a spriral ham at the same method as above - dinner was delayed so it ended up being in the crock for about 9 hours...burnt...still tasted ok, and still pretty tender (at least the inside of the ham-edges were pretty crusty)

Veronica's Hot Spinach, Artichoke and Chile Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2010
Made this weekend for a potluck. I didn't have a chance to taste it unfortunately, but since it went quickly I assume it was good..added 1/2 cup sour cream as another reviewer suggested as well as 3/4 cup of grated asiago cheese and about 4 cloves of garlic minced and reduced the jalapenos by half (4 guests who won't eat spicy food). Will make this again since it went over very well.

My Mom's Good Old Potato Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2010
Very good...My mother has also made a version of this since I was a child, and I carry it on now...my teen-aged children will not eat any potato salad other than mine. We add a squirt of yellow mustard and either a splash of vinegar or pickle juice, chopped ham, and about a teaspoon of sugar. Oh yes, sometimes I sub green onions for the yellow and sometimes omit entirely...depending on who's joining for dinner...then I just add onion powder. Thanks, I didn't think anyone else made a similar version.

Classic Goulash

Reviewed: May 26, 2010
This was very tasty...interesting how different backgrounds and cultures have different versions of goulash...my mother was from the Rhine in Germany and her goulash was definitely not this...this was called sloppy joe in our house (with the addition of green peppers and we use half ground beef and half ground pork and about 1/2 pound of chopped bacon). We also don't cook the noodles in with the meat...it is put over noodles like a pasta sauce. Definitely a favourite. Although we used Maggi instead of soy sauce. Maggi is a staple in our german household for most meat recipes - grilled, baked, fried or roasted. Thank you, I enjoyed trying your recipe.

Chocolate Mousse Cake II

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
This recipe is outstanding...I have made this twice...the first time, I made it and stuck it right in the freezer after assembling because I was making a ton of food for a party, and the mousse didn't set properly but still received rave reviews...the second time, I left in the fridge for two days according to the instructions, and it set up perfectly. For the second time, I followed another reviewers suggestion, and used a brownie bottom, and used the Chocolate Ganache recipe posted by another on this site http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chocolate-Ganache/Detail.aspx and it was divine. I made the ganache and poured it on the cake after it sat in the fridge for the two days, and then popped the whole thing in the freezer again until the weekend (for another party). Thank you Kristen...everyone said this was as good as or better than any bakery cake they've had. I would give it 10 stars if I could for all the accolades I received on this. It is SO rich...I need to brush my teeth immediately after eating.

Mocha Buttercream Torte

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
I made this torte along with the Mocha Buttercream icing posted by the same person...you must be a chocolate lover (I am) to love this cake...I topped the entire cake with a ganche (recipe from this site) and piped flowers with some extra buttercream on top...took this to a baby shower and the whole thing went rather quickly...very, very rich - probably because of the ganache top, but that is how I always had it from the local hungarian bakery. Thank you for this recipe...I will be making this again in 2 weeks for my daughter's bday party because she loved it (she's a chocoholic as well)

Authentic German Rouladen

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
Somehow one of the ingredients was dropped from the list...and will not be the same without it...you must sprinkle the rouladen with Maggi along with the rest of the spices, or the taste will not be the same. Maggi can be found in any German, or European deli or in the international section in the food aisle...and goes very well in roasts (beef/chicken/pork) - kicks the flavour up a notch..

10 Pound Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
This is my second cheesecake review from a recipe from this site and I think this also deserves a 5 star review...I doubled the recipe to bring a jumbo cheesecake for my niece's baby shower(she invited 50 people), and there was a line up just for this cake...none of the other desserts were touched until this was gone (within minutes)...next time I make a cheesecake, I'll have difficulty deciding which recipe to use...but with 50 people lining up...this recipe will definitely be used again!! I had made it the weekend before and kept it in the freezer...because it was double in size, it took several hours to thaw...and still held up perfectly. Thanks for the recipe and making me look good!!

Best No-Bake Cheesecake

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
This may be one of the best cheesecakes I have ever made. I was having a houseload of people so I made this in advance and put it in the freezer, because I had so many things to prepare and it was outstanding! Just thaw for approximately 15-20 minutes before serving. Remember to whip the cream and fold in already whipped. This could be why some are having difficulty. This easily deserves a 5 star. I used Raspberry pie filling as the topping and drizzled hot fudge sauce on top before freezing. Next time I will make with Cherry pie filling as recommended. This one is definitely a keeper.

Turkey Delight

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2008
I have always had difficulty getting everyone to eat leftover turkey...I've tried many ways to use this up, but the whole household complains for one reason or another...this recipe fits the bill...everyone eats...I use up the leftovers...Thank you so much for this idea...Canadian thanksgiving is coming up and my husband actually reminded me I should make this dish again with the leftovers!!! That NEVER happens.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2008
I don't often submit reviews for the various recipes I have tried, but, since this one came up as recipe of the day, I feel I must put in my 2cents. This has become a favourite in our household. Works well with breasts as well. The sauce has become a staple for the numerous stir fry's created in our kitchen...even my kids love it and that's saying quite a bit!! Don't change a thing, except you may want to double the sauce to use in other dishes.

Caesar Salad Supreme

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2007
This dressing is fantastic. I should have reviewed this prior to now. This is the only caesar dressing I use now. Forget that store-bought stuff. The whole family enjoy this. I even told the kids there were anchovies in it after they had eaten it a few times and they were shocked! BUT, they still like it after their initial disgust over the fact that there are anchovies. We use the paste that you can purchase at the store and the little one (10 yr old) likes to squeeze it from the tube...

Basic Microwave Risotto

Reviewed: May 26, 2006
Tried this recipe for DH,mom, and kids...I personally loved it, but everyone else was not too crazy about the flavour the wine gave to the dish...I live with many fussy people...will make again and cut down on the wine.
