Dad's New Zealand Mince Stew

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2008
This is a close approximation of what I would consider a typical New Zealand mince stew. But we don't have onion powder here and don't use garlic powder or teriyaki sauce (we use soy sauce). I wonder if it's been Americanised a bit. We usually have peas and carrots in the stew as well. The first day we serve it on toast. The next day it will thicken up a bit so the leftovers become shepherd's pie. It's the traditional food for those on a tight budget.

Mall Pretzels

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2008
This recipe is awesome! The only change I made was to use the breadmaker's dough setting to make the dough. The editor's tip about rolling them out halfway then coming back to the first one was very helpful. The pretzels were really easy to roll out and shape that way. The pretzels looked great and tasted wonderful. I'm making them again tomorrow with cinnamon sugar, can't wait!

The kids loved it! The adults couldn't eat it though, it was so rich.

These came out dry and barely edible. I had to throw the whole batch away.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
I was concerned about not cooking the meatballs first but they came out fine. The sauce was excellent, the only reason this does not get 5 stars is that the meatballs were rather bland. I would recommend adding some more spices to the meatball mix.

Best Peanut Butter Cookies Ever

Reviewed: May 15, 2007
I tried these on a whim, we don't have peanut butter cookies in New Zealand so I'm not sure how they were meant to taste. They just tasted like peanut butter with sugar in it to me. I didn't have any problems with the dough, and the cookies came out looking just like th e picture. It was hard to tell if they were 'done' since they didn't brown. The sugar was still crunchy, I am unsure if I cooked them for long enough. It was easy and fun to make but I didn't much care for the flavour. Might be an acquired taste.

Dr. Michael's Yeasted Cornbread

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2007
Very nice. Baked well in the breadmaker, would recommend using the light crust setting. Very light flavor, maybe a little more seasoning to make it perfect.
