Spaghetti with Bacon

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2014
I add red chili pepper flakes when I fry the bacon. It's a good simple BASIC recipe.

Overnight Blueberry French Toast

I made this and found that two packages of cream cheese is far too much.

African Peanut Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2013
I added chili pepper flakes, as well as more chili powder than the recipe called for, based on other reviews. However, I added too many chili pepper flakes, so I added a can of coconut milk, which tamed the heat. The recipe was okay, but I feel that something else needs to be added to give this soup some oomph. Strangely enough, this soup reminded me of Campbell's tomato soup AND bean with bacon.

Hamburger Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2011
I cannot begin to tell you how well this turned out. As I was making it, I thought, "Well, this can't be enough ingredients to give much flavor." So, I improvised and added some basil, oregano and red chili pepper flakes. I also used the large can of crushed tomatoes. I also added barley simply because I had bought some a year ago but had no idea when/where to use it. Last night gave me the perfect opportunity. Wow! I didn't even need to make the roux because the crushed tomatoes and the barley thickened up the soup nicely. I literally cannot wait until this batch is gone, so that I can make it again with potatoes and macaroni this time!!! I am VERY, VERY picky when it comes to flavor, so thank you, Sandra, for a recipe that will always be a favorite!!!

Colonial Brown Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
Even without them, this bread reminds me so much of a date bread that my mother used to make when I was a kid. In fact, I think the next time I make this bread, I will reduce the brown sugar and add dates and raisins for a change of pace. An extremely easy recipe to make. When I was baking them, I thought the loaves were overdone after about 50 minutes, but the knife test told me they still had to bake more. Anyway, enough from me!!! A recipe I will definitely make again. Thanks to the contributor for sharing.

Pizza Without the Red Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2009
I, too, found it heavy-handed on the garlic, which I LOVE, by the way and kind of on the bland side, but I'm not sure why. I also added fresh tomato slices and mushrooms. Because the mushrooms were raw, I sprinkled a little more olive oil on the top to aid in their cooking. I did not jalapeno pepper since I could not find fresh in the grocery store; however, it wasn't missed. I don't know - something about this recipe didn't click, so I will keep looking for a better Greek/vegetarian pizza with no red sauce.
