Filet Mignon with Rich Balsamic Glaze

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2010
With some necessary changes this is an EXCELLENT recipe. First, make sure to rest the steak for at least 30 minutes. Cook for 1 minute each side and then let rest until room temperature. Then cook for about 3 minutes seach side for medium rare. Make sure to put onto warm plates. For the sauce, I added a pinch of sugar and a clove of garlic which was a great.

Brussels Sprouts in Mustard Sauce

Substituted flour for corn starch which worked perfectly. While not the best brussels sprouts I've ever had, a very servicable recipe.

Ham and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2010
My wife loved this soup, and thats saying something, since I've tried other ham-bean soup recipes on her and met with ho-hum reviews. Here's how I did it: after soaking the beans overnight, threw them and a leftover ham bone with meat remains in the crockpot and cooked on high for 4 hours. Then in went the other ingredients, save for the tomatoes and chilies. Those I added when the veggies were nearly soft. Used fresh tomatoes and chilies, and it was delish!

Better than a lot of the restaurant fried rice we've had! Excellent as is, no tweaking required.

Szechwan Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2009
The sauce was quite good. We added broccoli, snow peas and carrots which were great but made the shrimp totally superfluous. Next time we'll make it vegetarian style.

Great Garlic Beer Steaks

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
An okay recipe, but not the best way to cook or marinate a stake. Came out kind of bland.

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
An excellent recipe that we make regularly. We use half and half instead of cream because it cuts calories. We also use fresh plum tomatoes.

Herbal Shrimp Delight with Beer Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
Followed the recipe precisely. VERY bitter. I think it was due to the fresh herbs. Had to add sugar to make it edible. Is definitely missing something. Won't be making this one again.

Spicy Peach-Glazed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2009
Cooking time was too much, took chops out after 6 minutes on each side and they were just a little over done. I served them with fresh peaches on the side which was excellent. A great recipe.

Rich and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2009
Important note for beginners: cool the soup before placing it in the blender or split it into batches. Otherwise, a solid recipe, but not the best tomato soup I've ever had.

Turned up the heat a bit (for speed) and meat was still tender and flavorful. Might use a little more garlic next time.

Followed the recipe and this dish came out dry and plain. Husband ate it but the leftovers are still in the fridge (not a good sign!).
