Tasty Green Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2008
This has got great flavor and it's not smothered with creamy stuff like most of the other recipes. My husband loved it and he doesn't really care for green beans. I recommend cooking the green beans for only 10-15 minutes, though, because they will get too soggy otherwise.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2007
Modify like this: I recommend cutting the recipe in half if you're using a 4-quart crock pot. Use chicken broth instead of water. Substitute one cream of chicken can w/cream of celery instead. Dump in small bag of frozen mixed veggies. Sprinkle some cumin, parsley, salt & pepper. I added a LOT of chicken broth after it was done to make it soup consistency otherwise it comes out more like pot pie filling. Flatten biscuit dough with hand as thin as possible and slice into strips-- should take about 45 mins to an hour or so for strips to cook.

Tres Leches (Milk Cake)

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2007
Very yummy! No left over milk sitting in the pan after the cake soaked it up. But I believe I needed to whip the cream longer because it turned out very runny. Perhaps using a blender for 10 minutes will do.

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2007
Excellent! I used a pork shoulder and put onions on the bottom then crocked on high for 4-5 hours, shredded it, and poured in Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce. I then heated it through in the crock pot for another hour.

House Fried Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2006
Yummy but takes time! I think I'll add more soy sauce next time. This time, I added a small can of water chestnuts and I made the rice ahead so that it could chill and be more managable as a reviewer suggested. I don't know if that was necessary, but it seemed easy to mix. I was skeptical of the ham but added it anyway, and it tasted great. This is a keeper.

Chai Tea Mix

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2006
Excellent taste! 1.5 cups of sugar is plenty instead of the 2.5 cups that the recipe asks for. I also added 1 tsp. nutmeg and allspice and 1/2 tsp. white pepper and ground cardamom (instead of the 1 tsp of cardamom) per other reviewers. I used all French vanilla powdered non-dairy creamer so that I wouldn't have to buy two containers.

Frozen Mudslide

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2006
So a JIGGER is 3 TBSP-- I had to look that up. This is a good starter recipe. I made quite a few adjustments according to other reviewers. I used 3 cups of ice cream instead of the ice, skipped the whipped cream, used Cask & Cream instead of Irish Cream, and decided to use Kahlua for the coffee liqueur. Yummy!

Asian Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2006
This was easy, but I didn't really like all the iceberg lettuce. A whole head makes a lot of salad, too, and needed to have double the dressing that the recipe called for. I used a can of chow mein noodles instead of messing with the dried rice noodles. I also added 2 small cans of mandarin oranges.

Tuna Noodle Casserole II

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2006
As far as tuna noodle casserole goes, this one is good. I used sea shell noodles, cut the salt in half, used cheddar instead of the processed stuff, and added a can of mushrooms and freshly sliced celery. The celery stays crunchy, but I liked the crunch and I also liked the potato chip topping.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2006
As per other reviewers, I included the following in the recipe: 2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, and 2 TBSP vanilla extract (instead of the recipe's 2 tsp). Refrigerating the dough before scooping onto the cookie sheet made the dough much more manageable.

Chicken a la King I

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2006
I give this 5 stars after I modified the recipe with the recommendations of other reviewers. I sauteed a medium chopped onion with the bell pepper and mushrooms. I used 2 TBSP total of chicken bouillon powder which I mixed into the hot water to make chicken broth and I added an additional 2 TBSP of dry sherry. I didn't omit any of the recipe's original ingredients. I served it over a mixture of white and brown rice and it was delicious!

My Best Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2006
A very yummy and rich clam chowder. Unfortunately I didn't cook the veggies enough so they were a little crunchy even though the potatoes were soft. As a leftover, I thinned the soup with 1% milk before microwaving because it was pretty stiff coming out of the refrigerator. Will make again.

Black Bean and Salsa Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2006
I thought this was very tasty and I felt very healthy eating it. The green onions are a must for flavor and texture but I could take or leave the sour cream even though it makes the dish LOOK nicer when served. Next time I think I will blend most of the beans and then leave some whole for a little more texture in the soup.

Make Ahead Lunch Wraps

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2006
I wasn't very impressed with the flavor of these wraps. I used chicken broth to cook the rice in but didn't have a packet of taco seasoning like the other reviewers recommended... So it tasted very beany and bland. I also cut the recipe in half and it made 24 wraps with 8 inch tortillas, and I even had some more filling left over. I'm glad I didn't make the full recipe. I don't think I'll try making it again unless I discover some more drastically flavorful substitutions or additions.

Bob's Awesome Lasagna

Reviewed: May 31, 2006
I liked Linda's Lasagna better because it had more to it. Even so, this one is good and takes a little less time to prepare.

Hearty Ham Casserole

Reviewed: May 31, 2006
Tasty casserole with mild flavors. I used 1/4 cup chopped onions & 1/2 tsp. marjoram as one reviewer suggested. Tasted good. I also used shredded monterey jack cheese instead of what the recipe called for. It turned out fine. Next time I'll try it with shredded cheddar cheese.

Good and has tons of potential. Next time I will add a small can of mushrooms and sauteed onions and bell peppers. Can't wait to try the new additions.

VERY tasty! I drained the excess liquid after it finished cooking in the oven. I will definitely make it again.

Rum Cake I

Reviewed: May 31, 2006
Wonderful recipe! I made it exactly as the recipe said the first time, and then the second time I combined a different recipe with it and it tasted even better. Here are the optional adaptations: chocolate cake instead of yellow, 7 oz. chocolate fudge pudding instead of vanilla, and I doubled the amount of water, oil, and rum (bourbon tastes great, too!).

Iced Mochas

Reviewed: May 31, 2006
Yummy but too sweet for me, not enough coffee flavor, and rather thin. The second time I made it, I adapted it and used an entire tray (12 cubes) of coffee ice cubes and used only 1/8 cup (or 2 TBSP) of sugar instead of the full amount on the recipe. It turned out much better for my taste! I will keep this adaptation and look forward to possibly adding caramel or cinnamon next time.
