Me - a little grayer in 2013!
Larry
About this Cook
I started making salads when I was 9 years old. I quickly graduated to box cake mixes and have been an avid cook ever since. As this is written (2012) I am 54 years old and still love to cook and try new recipes. I love to combine tastes in my mind, then combine them for real! I have a book of recipes that are my own.
My favorite things to cook
I love to grill, make pizza, and desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mexican food. I love to make tamales from scratch and love the traditional Mexican recipes. Even though I am extremely WHITE,I love mexican food.
My cooking triumphs
I will never forget the first time I made flan, and it turned out perfect! I also love to bake birthday cookies for my grandkids! I make and sell my own recipe of salsa. It's labeled as "Miguel y Larios Limited Edition Gourmet Salsa".
My cooking tragedies
One year when I was young I was preparing the family Thanksgiving dinner when the oven went out. Not to be thwarted, I tried to make the traditional cornbread dressing in the microwave. It turned out so rubbery that as it was being thrown out I missed the garbage can and it actually bounced! I still am ribbed 30 years later about this debaucle!

Creamy Cilantro Pesto Sauce
Wonderful sauce, but a bit misleading calling it "pesto". As pesto is a sauce made with basil, pine nuts and olive oil.

Beautiful Salad
This was a good recipe to begin with, but I changed it up to our liking and have been eating it every single Friday night for... I lose count of the years! I use (in this order) bagged "tender baby lettuces", red onion, bacon bits, feta cheese, dried cranberries, walnuts, mandarins, and Newmans - fat free raspberry vinaigrette.
