I have been in the kitchen since my mother first decided she could trust me with fire. From that day, I have always loved experimenting with new and exciting things, trying every recipe that peaks my curiousity.
Now I find myself able to figure out how things will turn out by imagining the tastes in my head as well as being able to fix any recipe by simply smelling it.
My favorite things to cook
I honestly love baking a lot more than cooking. I tend to go more towards cakes as they are always fun to decorate and make pretty.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Everyone in my family has their own little quriks when it comes to cooking. My grandma's is onion on everything, my mom believes pepper should be worshipped and I put mint into everything I can smuggle it in to. But I have lately been laying off of that - although I still believe mint goes with everything. Now it's just basil.
My cooking triumphs
One of the first things I learned how to make was orange salmon. I got the idea (not knowing it was already a common dish) because I wanted orange chicken one day but there was no chicken - just canned salmon. So I combined canned salmon with orange juice and my mom told me it tasted awesome - I thought it was horrible - but it was a good idea. So, once I got older, I started messing around with it again, real salmon this time, and I have finally perfected the art of a lovely orange and ginger salmon that curls everyone's toes.
My cooking tragedies
I once thought it would be cool to make chocolate muffins with green cream in the middle to make them 'monster muffins.' Let's just say I didn't know that food coloring has a horrendous taste when used in bulk.
