About this Cook
French-Italian married to an Italian-Scots/Irish, 44 yrs old, no kids, 4 cats and a dog. Love to cook, love to eat!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook Italian, I enjoy cooking meats and pies. I am not very good with cookies--too impatient!
My favorite family cooking traditions
growing up in South Jersey with all the immigrants--Italian, German, Pennsylvania Dutch, Country cooking...anything with tomatoes! I spent every Summer in Biloxi as a kid and got a taste for Cajun, then moved south to Georgia and learned how to make biscuits and fry chicken then I spent a few years in Southern California and learned how to cook 'real' Mexican.
My cooking triumphs
My Party Cavatini, my Sticky Chicken and Rice, I do excellent baked hams and turkeys and love to use my dutch oven. My Jambalaya is great too!
My cooking tragedies
the one I remember the keenest was the strawberry-rhubarb pie that I baked in an aluminum pie-tin and when I took the boiling hot pie out of the oven the tin collapsed on me and strawberry-rhubarb was all over the kitchen! I had to have help cleaning it up--it got between the oven and refrigerator--it was hot and sticky and I had spent hours on it--grew the fruit myself--I burned myself. I just cried!

Carne Asada Tacos
this is an excellent recipe! Skirt Steaks or Breakfast Steaks work well with this. I do use fresh tomatillos and add some garlic to my homemade salsa verde (or just buy your favorite brand!) and you HAVE to use soft corn tortillas for that authentic taste--just like the "street tacos" you buy on the corner in Tijuana! I use more lime and cilantro because I like alot of it, and if you are going to use any cheese at all-make it pepper jack!

Wine Cookies (Original Italian)
I use 1/4 cup of honey instead of 3 tablespoons of white sugar, add more flour to dough if too sticky.

Sour Cream Apple Pie Deluxe
this is one of my favorite apple pies---it is spicy apples in a rich tangy custard. reminds me of the apple-pie yogurt my grandmother used to have in her fridge she would give me after school!
