Chunky Applesauce

Reviewed: May 10, 2009
Used granny Smith apples and followed the recipe exactly. With some adjustments it has the potential of being a five star recipe.

Carrot, Potato, and Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: May 10, 2009
This was gobbled up by the kids in no time at all, much to my surprise. With a little tweaking it turned into a great soup at little cost.

Jayme's Cole Slaw

Reviewed: May 4, 2009
It was a really easy recipe to throw together as a BBQ side dish. I found it a little too vinegary, although it was better the next day. Next time I would add more sugar and mayo and less vinegar.

Easy Lemon Bars

Reviewed: May 4, 2009
Easy to make and people seemed to enjoy them, but I personally wasn't too fond of them.

Healing Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: May 4, 2009
I didn't think this would be liked that much by my family but made it to help with my Grandma's liver cancer. Everyone enjoyed it! I threw in some carrots, celery and the tomato juice. I also added extra garlic and cayenne pepper.

Juiciest Hamburgers Ever

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
Used home-grown Highland beef for these and they were just missing a little something. It is a good base recipe though as long as you add your own flavor.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
Everyone enjoyed these when I took them to a family dinner. Small squares are best because these are really rich.

Chocolate Chip Mini-Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
My husband made these and loved the raw batter but we found that the cooked product was dry and lacked flavour. The kids ate them up but I think that had more to do with the abundance of chocolate chips in them.

Brownie Caramel Cheesecake

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
Incredibly sweet and in the words of my father-in-law, "sinful". My brownie layer was a little gooey but that didn't seem to bother anyone but me since I had to try and serve it. I did increase the cheesecake layer and used sweetened condensed milk instead of evaporated.

Grasshopper Pie I

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
Three stars because as good as it taste it never set. That being said people were eating it with a spoon right out of the pie plate. I probably wouldn't waste my time and booze trying to make it again.

Farmhouse Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2009
Following the recipe will only get you 2 1/2 stars. For the full 5 stars make your own dressing and use cream of chicken soup. Toss in some sage when you are cooking your chicken and add a little chicken oxo to boost the flavour.

Chocolate Mint Dessert Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2009
The five stars is for the topping and filling, I DID NOT make the brownie from this recipe. It could even had been a bit more mintier for my liking but I will be using this recipe again.

Blueberry Oat Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2009
The dough was very easy to work with but the blueberries didn't really cook down enough for my liking (or most of my family's liking). I think I might use the dough and make thumbprint cookies with it and fill it with strawberry jam.

Italian White Bean and Pancetta Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2009
Great addition to my soup routine. Don't bother adding any salt, between the stock and the pancetta you don't need any more.

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
I used mint extract instead of vanilla and added milk chocolate chips. I will be making these again and probably very soon. They reminded me of a fudge brownie mixed with a Girl Guides thin mint cookie.

Potato Leek Soup III

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
An excellent, healthy soup. I cut the butter in half and added parsley, cumin and Maggi seasoning. Pureed with hand blender but left some bigger pieces. Topped it all off with grated cheese and bacon.

Tortellini Minestrone

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2009
Try this and be surprised how much you like it! I too doubted the idea of ketchup in soup so only used 1/4 cup of it and made up the rest by using a small can of tomato paste. I cooked up 5 spicy Italian sausages and aside from the onion, carrots and celery I used a package of 'Europe's Best' Mediterranean Diced Delite that included zucchini, eggplant, red/yellow/green onions, mushrooms and tomato. I used up some frozen tortellini that I had on hand. To make it a true Minestrone I tossed in a few handfuls of red and white beans. I even froze some for later.

Almond-Tipped Shortbread Fingers

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2009
Followed the recipe and the only thing I didn't do was dip them in nuts. Way too much fuss for not a great product. The fingers themselves were a too dry for my liking, I even threw some out. Then I had problems getting the chocolate to stick to the cookies. I don't think I would bother with these again.

Scalloped Pineapple

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
Pretty good although I have nothing to compare it to, I've never had bread pudding before. I think if I make this again I might play with it. I might add some cinnamon and some Malibu rum for a tropical taste. I think it can be improved on, that is why it only got four stars.

Hot Spinach Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2009
Close to the stuff you get at Montana's and Kelsey's. It lacked a little flavour at first. Added garlic and onion powder. I added some red pepper flakes and Tabasco for heat. I baked it in the oven at 350' stirring it and adding more cheese as needed. I kind of went crazy with the cheese. I used different amounts of Jalapeno Havarti, Marble, Mozzarella and Parmesan. The kids even liked this. I served it with tortilla chips. I think I might even freeze portions of it for later since it made a big batch.
