Country girl, born and raised. I've been married for 12 years. We have four children 8 and under who have all been born at home. I enjoy cooking, baking, boating and photography.
My favorite things to cook
I love making soups and stews all year but desserts are probably what I spend the majority of my kitchen time on. I get requests for cheesecakes (bake and no-bake) and for my fudge.
My favorite family cooking traditions
In the summer we enjoy fishing for our supper. The kids get to be outside on the lake while we get to fish.
My cooking triumphs
I think whenever I come home from a nice meal at a restaurant and can duplicate it, or improve on it, is a triumph for me. I don't like ordering things that I know I can make at home for a lot less money.
My cooking tragedies
I once made Baklava (recipe from this site) and didn't have anywhere to store it. So instead of leaving it out on the counter I stuck it in the oven. The next day I decided to do some baking and preheated my oven. It wasn't long before I could smell something funny in the kitchen. I opened up the oven to see the saran wrap melted onto my baklava. The moral of the story is: always check your oven before preheating!
