Kale Puttanesca

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2008
I like this healthy approach to the recipe. I wish the pasta would have had more sauce. Also, I couldn't even taste the red pepper flakes although it was an entire teaspoon? The olives in Puttanesca are really important in my opinion to the flavor. So... don't forget them. I used regular penne, because it's what I had on hand. The sauce was a little salty, but after being mixed with the pasta it was fine. I did rinse the capers. I also added dried basil, oregano, freshly grated nutmeg (for the kale) and freshly ground fennel seed. I also used more kale. The kale is awesome. I grew it in a box outside. Thanks for the recipe. I will try making more sauce next time.

Fennel Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2007
Quite nice. This was my second time cooking with fennel. I added a pinch of dried herbes de Provence. I also used freshly ground white pepper. This has a nice peppery taste. It's delicate.

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2007
Yum. :). I used self-rising flower rather than all-purpose and ommitted salt/rising agent in accordance. I had a hard time stretching out the dough into thin enough logs. In some of the dough I put garlic and in one a bit more butter. Before baking I covered with melting butter product, sea salt and on some a combination of melted butter product and cinnamon sugar. Yum. :). Nice and dough-ey. :).

Barbie's Tuna Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2007
I used less mayo, no relish (didn't feel like it?), fresh parsley rather than dried, and some liquid smoke. It was pretty good. :). I also added celery seed.

Italian Anisette Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2007
These were quit lovely. Mine turned out more like sweetened corn bread. I didn't have any anise, so I used vanilla and almond extract. I also used self rising flour with 1 1/2 tsp of baking powder. They were quite lovely. I ate way to many, then later passed out from carb overload. :) :( :)

Brazilian Lemonade

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2007
This was nice. I found it a little bitter, but not prohibitively so. This could have been because 1. I blended too long, 2. I only used 2/3 the recommended amount of sugar or 3. I made my own sweetened condensed milk rather than buying canned. It's sort of like a mojito, but white and not minty. Haha. :).

Laura's Quick Slow Cooker Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2007
This chili was decent, although most certainly not the best I've ever had. I was worried about the spices, because people were saying that they are too hot. Therefore, I cut down on them. In the end though, it was a little bland so I added more chili powder, some curry and few drops of habanero sauce. I also tried a little coco. I will add some more cumin next. This gets better over time. :O). Also, I rinsed my beans to get some of the salt off.

Peanut Butter Vegetable Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2006
Mmm. This was good. I felt like I was at a circus, carnival or somewhere cool like Africa with the smell of the soup. I boiled a chicken and removed the meat. I then cooked the soup with the bone(s) intact to enrich flavor. I added to the recipe dried potato slivers from a box along with some dried onion flakes in place of onions. I also didn't use zuch. or much celery. My grandmother really liked it.

Restaurant Style Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2006
My family really liked this recipe. The ricotta makes it very smooth. My tastes would have had more red, i.e. tomato sauce, but that could be remedied by serving garlic bread with marinara alongside the lasagna! :O).
