Semolina Turmeric Cake (Sfoof)

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2009
I made this cake using Chinese five spice instead of turmeric, and it was great. I really liked the texture. Without the spice, it's also a great eggless cake recipe.

Best Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2008
I find that this is a more labor-intensive way to get close to the same result as my favorite buttercream recipe, "Best Ever Buttercream Frosting," also from AllRecipes. I couldn't find it last night so I used this one (I only had granulated sugar). Despite beating the mixture for 20 minutes, mine still had sugar granules in it, and I would not have known it needed to be beaten that long had I not read the reviews. Due to the fact that it delivered a product inferior to what I am used to, and that the recipe is incomplete as written (cooking temp? beating speed/time?), I cannot give this more than two stars.

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2006
This was a wonderfully creamy frosting that was not too sweet. I liked that it didn't get hard and crusty after the baked goods sat out for a bit.

Best Ever Butter Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2006
I followed the recipe to a tee and this came out perfectly! It's just like the professionally-made buttercream that was on my wedding cake. One tip: My icing seemed to have creamed together after about 5 minutes, and I considered stopping beating it. However, I'm glad I FOLLOWED THE RECIPE and beat it for 20 minutes, because the consistency was much creamier and more consistent!

Aunt Bert's White Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2006
I followed the first review of this recipe, adding a pack of pudding mix and 2 T of vegetable oil, and the cake is GREAT! It did turn out yellow, not white, but it's wonderfully moist and delicious. Plus, you can pick which flavor pudding to add to slightly flavor the cake!

Cheesy Ranch Potato Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2006
Definitely a crowd-pleaser, but it was much heavier than I typically prefer. It can easily be made with half the butter, low-fat cheese, and low-fat ranch. Nobody misses a thing!

German Potato Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2006
Everyone just loved this when I served it with bratwursts--it tastes just like Mom's! To cut down on the prep time, use sliced, canned potatoes, drained and rinsed. It only took me 20 minutes start to finish!

Grandma's Sour Cream Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2006
This cake was the best pound cake recipe I've tried. I omitted the mace and added twice the amount of vanilla to give it some extra flavor, which helped it stand alone. I also recommend cooking it at 325 or the top becomes too brown!
