I am a twenty-something college graduate who enjoys art, music, books and the great outdoors. I am a strict vegetarian. That means no gelatin, no poultry, and no fish. People who claim to be vegetarian but still eat fish annoy me. Anything with eyeballs is an animal, and therefore meat. Come up with a different term for your food restrictions, please.
My favorite things to cook
I try to minimize dairy and eggs in my diet, and prefer fresh vegetables, whole grains, and all natural choices over prepared foods. I love to try out new recipes and cook veggie versions of everything short of spare ribs. You show me a meat based recipe and I guarantee that a veggie version as good or better can be accomplished.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I like cooking with my dad while we work our way through the better part of a bottle of Pinot Grigio.
At Christmas, my mom, my sister and I trip over each other in the kitchen rushing to prepare two holiday meals, one traditional, and one vegetarian for my mom and me.
My cooking triumphs
I recently baked my first strawberry-rhubarb pie and it turned out beautifully.
My cooking tragedies
After I had been dating my current boyfriend and love of my life for barely a month, I decided to cook for him a cassarole invented by my mom that never fails to please male mouths. After much hype and about a two hour wait, I opened the oven and screamed! The plastic cassarole dish I had bought at the grocery store, that claimed to be oven safe, was not. It hate melted, fusing at the seams, encasing our delicious and highly anticipated meal in a tomb of charred plastic. Needless to say, I burst out crying, but he forgave my mistake and took me out to dinner.
