Amber's Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2010
AWESOMENESS!! I used 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup corn starch to fry my dark meat chicken (personal preference). I had no 5 spice powder on hand so in the flour mixture, I used 1 tsp powdered ginger 1/4 tsp cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg which coincidentally is 3 out of the 5 spices in 5spice powder. Other reviews said to increase the sauce, so I used 1/2 cup teriyaki and 1/3 cup honey -plenty of sauce for the jasmine rice. My kids and my DH who is a finicky Chinese food eater loved it! He even said that when he burped it burped like Chinese food (now that's a compliment).

Tri-Tip Rub

Reviewed: May 1, 2010
I have never made tri-tip before. I saw this recipe and used this rub. I only used one tblsp black pepper and 1 tblsp kosher salt since I have young kids that don't like anything spicy. I seared the tri tip on the grill and then turned all the burners off except one (indirect heat) and closed the lid for 30 mins. This is juicy, flavorful and I really enjoyed it. Thanks ALEAH!

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2010
I made this with regular devils food cake mix and chocolate fudge frosting very good but RICH! So, I made these again with a REDUCED SUGAR box cake mix found at my local grocery store...OUTSTANDING! Not too sweet and believe me it makes them now even harder to resist :) especially when paired with really good dark chocolate (not almond bark or confectioners coating - Great recipe!

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2010
This soup is definitely easy, but a bit on the salty side. I like a thicker tortilla soup and I found that the frozen corn adds alot of moisture so I didn't add the 2 cups of water. I kept everything else the same. I used the leftovers from a rotisserie chicken and that added flavor. It's a nice change from plain old soups and it's not spicy at all when you use a mild enchilada sauce.

Good recipe - very pleased with the outcome. I uncovered it & cooked it an additional 15 mins to crisp up the top! My 2, 5 and 10 year olds love it. I

Slow Cooker Scalloped Potatoes with Ham

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
Smelled awesome and had good flavor, but I don't know if anyone experienced what I did: the potatoes turned black in the crockpot. It looked great until you spooned into the middle :( so I picked off the yummy cheese off the top and tossed the rest. I will probably try this recipe in the oven instead of the crockpot.

Sauteed Apples

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
I like to make this recipe for breakfast using the apples my kids won't eat; you know the older ones with the wrinkly skin! I boost it with extra cinnamon and vanilla. Its wonderful over pancakes with a dollop of whipped cream. Yum!

Champagne Cake With Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2009
I am a baker and this recipe is not for me. I made it twice: once with regular AP flour - it came out very dense; again with cake flour just to lighten it up. Both times the cakes were tasteless and bready; no flavor at all and not very sweet. The buttercream icing was very tasty though and that recipe is a keeper!

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: May 14, 2009
I love this recipe! I make the original recipe (No need to change it) and I've also used others suggestions. Both are excellent! I make it on the stovetop when I'm pressed for time using leftover roast beef & keeping all the ingredients the same. The only thing I add when cooking on the stove is 1/2 packet of onion soup mix - only because the meat needs a boost of extra flavor since the simmering time is shorter than the crockpot. My family gobbles it up!

Amy's Cilantro Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
I've made this twice now - using the exact recipe and also the exact recipe plus a couple of minced jalapenos to add some heat. Our family ate both with everything; veggies, chips, tacos, flautas, you name it! Great recipe

Baked Scallops

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2007
Wonderful! I'm not a breadcrumb fan, so I used saltine crackers and kept everything the same. Even more crunch & more importantly my family raved! No soggieness here...
