About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to experiment with new recipes so family get togethers are always full of surprises.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I think thanksgiving dinner has always been my favorite tradition. Several years ago I talked my mom into letting me make the turkey and dressing and since then, every year I try to add a little something extra to every holiday meal.
My cooking triumphs
I recently made my first attempt at Tres Leche cake. My niece-in-law is of Mexican descent and told me it was the best she had ever had.
My cooking tragedies
My worst kitchen experience would have to be my first attempt at coconut cream pie, which happens to be one of my dads favorite desserts. I followed the directions to the letter and the filling was perfect as I poured it into my crust. I loaded it up with meringue, topped it with coconut, popped it into the oven and brought out the perfectly toasted pie. As we sliced and served it for Christmas Eve, we all ate our coconut cream soup in bowls with spoons. My family still laughs about needing straws to drink our pie. Still not sure what happened to that beautiful creamy custardy filling...lol

Best Ever Pie Crust
I'll be the 1st to admit I'm not the best pie baker and I've always had issues with my crust but this was the worst recipe I've ever tried. It was very unstable, when blind baking it lost all of it's shape and slid into a heap in my pie plate. I followed the recipe exactly so I don't know what happened, but I won't be using this recipe again. So I continue my search for the perfect pie crust recipe.
