About this Cook
my name is susan, i'm 26 years old and i am a military wife of almost 7 years now.i have always loved to cook, my mom started teaching me in our kitchen when i was very the time i was 12 i was doing it on my own.once i met my husband cooking became a huge part of my life.i love to cook and he loves to eat! he loves picking out new recipes for me to try.our kids on the other hand are very picky and like the more simple foods.being a stay at home mom and a military wife lets me enjoy cooking, and i would'nt change a thing!
My favorite things to cook
i love to cook different italian dishes,it's nice to get away from the traditional lasagna and throw in some chicken instead of beef. i am from new england originally, but being an army brat i grew up in ft bragg,nc, and i love southern food.stuff it and fry it and i'll give it a try. but my roots are always w/me, i am a seafood freak! so my cooking is pretty well rounded.
My favorite family cooking traditions
thanksgiving always stays very traditional for me. i have'nt deep fryed a turkey and probably never will. i like the traditional roasted bird w/homemade mashed potatoes and my dads gibblet been cassarole is a must, and sausage apple stuffing baked in the bird of course.if i find a new side dish that looks yummy, i'll give it a try,but the basics stay the same.and every holiday calls for butter cookie cut outs, frosted and decorated by kids and grown ups alike!
My cooking triumphs
i have so many of them! every meal that i cook and my husband eats everything on his plate and goes back for more, that is a triumph for me.i love to see the people i love get joy out of something that i get joy out of also.
My cooking tragedies
i really have'nt had a tragedy yet...keeping my fingers crossed. although one thankgiving while my husband was on his first deployment to iraq,i was cooking the dinner and taking care of our 2 girls...(my youngest was 6 months at the time and my oldest 6 years)well,i was taking the pecan pie out of the oven, and i was being so careful not to spill any on the floor, that instead i ended up some how loosing my balance and it slipped out of my hand and it ended up face down on the floor.the funny part about it is that neither me or the girls even like pecan pie, just my husband,i guess i made it for him in spirit.
