Refried Beans Without the Refry

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2007
Salty! Oh my gosh this is salty-3 tsp would have been enough. In the restaurant I use to work at we added 1 TBSP sugar and 1 TBSP chili powder (along with 1/4 cup oil or lard) Good way to cook them but wish I would have cut back on the salt.

Friendship Fruit Starter

Reviewed: May 14, 2007
I made this and the glass jar exploded sending little shards of glass every where in my kitchen even into the refrigerator and ceiling. DO NOT PUT A LID ON THE JAR, cover with a dish towel or something light.UPDATE : The glass jar is the problem, use a crock like you would for pickles or sauerkraut. It needs to be sealed for the fermenting process but not with a glass jar.

Cookie Pralines

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2007
Good recipe for people who love pecans! I was not sure how this would turn out but they are good. Very much like a praline candy. Easy to make and few ingredients. Also I used only 1/2 cup of the new Splenda brown sugar blend.

Shrimp Etoufee III

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2007
This was very very good! Next time I make it I will change a few things. It had way to much butter in it. I would make a roux to cook the onions, bell pepper and celery in then you would not need the cornstarch. And with the roux you don't need 2 sticks of butter.

Rachel's Wasabi Cocktail Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2007
I liked this with one change, I did not have wasabi paste so I used horseradish, instead of the 1/8 tsp we put 1/4 tsp of horseradish and that made it perfect for us. Good with fried shrimp but I would mix a little mayonnaise in it too.

Buttermilk Pralines

Good praline recipe! Very important to follow the recipe cooking to temps, stirring, and beat the almost 8 min. (even if arm feels like it is going to fall off)Give it time to cool off and set up. Very good!

Marinated Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2007
Good flavor and nice color, I used 7-up and let the breast marinate for about 8 hours. That was long enough because it had a strong flavor, I think I would cut back just a little on the soy sauce. I couldn't even tell that it had the horseradish in the mix.

Potluck Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2007
I like this! I would use a whole onion instead of the 3 Tbsp. and I didn't think it needed the crushed cornflakes. I think it was a little dry but I will make it again. I would recommend this recipe and think it would be perfect for potluck at church.

Candy Apple Jelly

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
What a great jelly recipe! So easy and great flavor. It did take about a full day to set up. I followed the recipe and would not change a thing. Found the red hots at walmart. I got 6 of the 8 oz jelly jars.

Sweet Grilled Shrimp Skewers

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2007
DH gives this one 5 stars, I would give it 4 stars. It was good, very sweet. I think the flavor was good but it overpowered the shrimp flavor and I love the flavor of shrimp.

Ultimate Corn Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2007
This is kind of a cross between cake and cornbread. I don't think I'll make it again because I like good old southern cornbread. The hint of nutmeg was odd to me and we like a cornbread you can hold in your hand, this kept falling apart. I had to cook it 50 minutes in my iron skillet.

Fudge Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2007
Very good! I left out the cinnamon just because I didn't think I would like it. I sifted the cocoa and it came out smooth. It was a little salty and I think that was due to the butter I used was salted. Next time I would cut back on the salt.

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
Good and easy recipe. I mixed a can of cranberry sauce with the onion soup mix and then put it in the slow cooker, it made a wonderful sauce to serve over the turkey once it was sliced. I found this recipe in a cookbook that said you could put a frozen breast in the slow cooker and cook on high 2 hours and then low 10 hours more.

Chicken Wraps

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2009
I did not use the pineapple or the teriyaki sauce but I did cut the chicken in small pieces and wrapped in bacon. Then I marinated it in a store bought marinade. Baked for 30 min and they were so good! I will be making this again using different marinade flavors. Great football food. 5 stars for the idea of making these!

Shrimp Marinaders

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2007
Really good appetizer-very easy to make-It only marinated for about 5 hours but had a good flavor-I used Tiger sauce(a Louisiana product) for the hot sauce and think I'll add more than the 2 tsp next time.

These are so good! Used the bakers joy spray-they popped right out of the pan. Tablespoon of mixture was the perfect amount for each mini muffin cup.
