Chocolate-Peanut Butter Bonbons

Reviewed: May 21, 2009
These were...interesting. The cookies helped to keep your hands clean while eating them, but didn't add much to the dessert itself. The chocolate pudding part was not very flavorful--it was a little understated next to the chocolate and peanuts. If I tried these again, I might add more cream cheese-maybe even double it. For all the effort (I have two little ones-anything over one step is effort!) I'm not sure I'd do them again. They were good, not great. **Update: Originally rated 3 stars, I had to up this to 4 stars b/c I got so many compliments on them. So better than I thought, but still a lot of work.

Warm Fruit Compote

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2009
Five star recipe with some additions (the initial recipe was a little bland for my taste). Add a splash of vanilla, some nutmeg, and some cinnamon to taste and it becomes a perfect side dish for a cold-weather brunch or lunch!

Chicken 'N' Chilies Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2007
I've made this twice now, and thought it was much better with a few adjustments. I sauted the onion, added a can of diced tomatoes and chilies (drained), then melted 8 oz cream cheese into the veggies in place of the cream. I used 3/4 the potatoes that it calls for and added some garlic powder and cumin as suggested by other reviewers. 3 star the first time I made it and 5 star the second time with changes!

Rosenmunnar

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
Definitely important to follow the directions exactly on this one. The flour is 2 cups sifted then measured (not measured then sifted). It is written that way, but very important to note. I also found that jam or jelly works better than chunkier preserves. Also make sure the butter is softened and that you cream the butter and sugar for awhile before adding the flour. Again, all things written in the recipe, but if you tend to not follow recipes exactly (like me!) it could get you in trouble on this one!

Wedge Salad with Elegant Blue Cheese Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
This dressing was wonderful with half of the blue cheese--both in the dressing and on top of the salads (I think it would have been way too over-powering with all of the cheese in and on top of the salad!). I substituted whole milk b/c I didn't have any buttermilk and the dressing was definitely elegant and delicious!

Spicy Pineapple Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
I used this as a sauce for the Polynesian chicken wraps from this site and it was wonderful! I used a can of crushed pineapple in pineapple juice (not in heavy syrup and I didn't reserve the juice to add in later) and added the cornstarch and ginger to it and it turned out perfectly!

Ice Cream Sandwich Desserts

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I was tempted to give this 4 stars because I was frustrated that it took more ice cream sandwiches than stated, but it was so good I can't help but give it 5! Definitely need at least 24 sandwiches, though! I did sandwiches, caramel, peanutes, cool whip, sandwiches, hot fudge, cool whip, peanuts as suggested by another reviewer. EVERYONE wanted the recipe!

Eggs Benedict Breakfast Pizza

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
Yummy--didn't change a thing except baking the crust for about 4-5 minutes before topping it. A really unique breakfast to serve to guests!

Chunky Seafood Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2007
I don't usually try recipes that haven't been rated/reviewed yet, but I'm glad I tried this one! Very tasty for such a quick, easy recipe. My husband and father ate 3 servings!! I added 1/4 cup chopped parsley in at the end for some color and freshness.

Marshmallow and Lime Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
I want to love this recipe and taste-wise I do, but it's been so frustrating! Turns out so soupy which isn't appetizing. I've tried so many changes after the original didn't work AT ALL and this is what's been best: Used a little less soda (5-6 ounces), mixed in softened cream cheese and jello when marshmallow mix was still hot. Added pineapple (drained well) after I chilled for about an hour. I've been so busy adjusting for texture I haven't even tried different flavors but I may try that next.

Chocolate-Filled Crinkles

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
I made these for a Christmas cookie exchange b/c I was looking for something different and they were a hit! I left out the nuts and coconut in the filling, added about a quarter cup of peanut butter, and used only 1 teaspoon of milk. I doubled the recipe, but you really don't need to double the filling--I had a lot left over! Refrigerating the dough for about 10 minutes helps with the rolling. Also, it's helpful to dip the end of the spoon in flour before making the indentations in the cookie. I think I'm going to try rolling these in confectioner's sugar (like a traditional crinkle) before filling next time, and I'm excited to try different fillings!!

Rhubarb Strawberry Jam

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
As long as you cut back on the sugar a bit (I used 2/3 the amount) this is a five star recipe. It is soooo easy and a great way to use that rhubarb without making another pie/crisp.

Irish Soda Bread Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
I thought these would be okay as an addition to my st patty's day meal, but ended up really liking them! I left out the caraway seeds, topping half of the cookies with them before baking and I used a mix of golden raisins and cranberries.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
Wow is this good! Per many reviews, I added 1/4c water, doubled the topping and cut in the butter cold rather than melting. Also added 1 c chopped pecans to the topping which is a must if you like nuts! I used both quick cooking and regular rolled oats and it worked fine!!

Mulligatawny Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2008
Amazing! Definitely wouldn't serve 6 as written--especially not when it's this good! I doubled the curry and put in a bit more rice as suggested by other reviewers and I'm glad I did both. I think I'll put double the chicken in next time, too.

Tender Chicken Nuggets

a good, easy recipe. I think the temp needs to be a bit higher and they need to be cooked a bit longer--they weren't crispy enough for my taste the way it's written.

Delilah's Frosted Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
This is the first sugar cookie/frosting recipe that I have actually enjoyed making b/c they turned out so well! Not only were they beautiful and easy to transport b/c the frosting sets so nicely...they were also delicious and everyone who ate them said they tasted professional. I've never gotten that response with cookies!

Busy Night Turkey Taco Soup with Avocado Cream

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
Perfect way to use up turkey leftovers! I sauted an onion and garlic in olive oil, then added the turkey and a bit of water and 1/2 packet of taco seasoning and allowed to simmer for about 5 minutes for more flavor. Then I just added in the rest of the ingredients (and topped it off with cheese and sour cream) and it was delicious!
