Corned Beef and Cabbage

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
5 stars but I did make a few changes: I put the beef in, rubbed it with 2 T brown sugar instead of putting the white sugar in. I topped with water and spices, using less vinegar, then the veggies (red potatoes instead of white) and finally the cabbage.

Baked Orange Roughy with Veggies

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
This wasn't WOW for us, but it was good. It was a nice light main dish. The green onions on top are a must!

Incredibly Cheesy Turkey Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
I've never liked meatloaf before, but I loved this! I halved the recipe, added 1/4 c chopped onion, substituted garlic salt for reg salt and used half BBQ half ketchup for the topping. I used another reviewer's suggestion and took the meatloaf out when it hit 160 and covered it tight with foil until it reached the correct temp in order to keep it juicy.

Baked Potato Soup I

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2009
This was a little too thick for me...I'm going to try subbing in a bit of chicken broth for some of the milk and see if that helps. The flavor was pretty good, though. UPDATE: I doubled this recipe, but only used 1 cup each of flour and butter. I also subbed about 2 cups of the milk for chicken broth. Also only increased sour cream by 1/2 cup. My family enjoyed the soup even more with these changes!

Warm Fruit Compote

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2009
Five star recipe with some additions (the initial recipe was a little bland for my taste). Add a splash of vanilla, some nutmeg, and some cinnamon to taste and it becomes a perfect side dish for a cold-weather brunch or lunch!

Mulligatawny Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2008
Amazing! Definitely wouldn't serve 6 as written--especially not when it's this good! I doubled the curry and put in a bit more rice as suggested by other reviewers and I'm glad I did both. I think I'll put double the chicken in next time, too.

Rosenmunnar

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
Definitely important to follow the directions exactly on this one. The flour is 2 cups sifted then measured (not measured then sifted). It is written that way, but very important to note. I also found that jam or jelly works better than chunkier preserves. Also make sure the butter is softened and that you cream the butter and sugar for awhile before adding the flour. Again, all things written in the recipe, but if you tend to not follow recipes exactly (like me!) it could get you in trouble on this one!

Grandma's Slow Cooker Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
I thought the sweetness of the baked beans in this gave it a very weird flavor. I like the ease of the recipe, but not the final product. Maybe I'll play with it a bit and see what happens.

Sandy's Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
Good and very, very easy but mine came out a little dry. I may add a little extra milk next time. Will definitely make again and again, though, because it is so easy!

Honeyed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
My husband couldn't get enough of these. He told me it was a 5 star recipe and he's a tough critic when it comes to food. I did add garlic and doubled the sauce. I also marinated them longer than stated in the recipe.

Alyson's Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2008
Best broccoli salad recicpe I've found. I did use more than 1 head of broccoli as there was way too much dressing for my taste.

Indian-Style Rice with Cashews, Raisins and Turmeric

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2008
Wow--this was so easy for a really creamy, delicious rice. I didn't have turmeric and added a 1/2 t curry. I also used lite coconut milk.

Tender Chicken Nuggets

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2008
a good, easy recipe. I think the temp needs to be a bit higher and they need to be cooked a bit longer--they weren't crispy enough for my taste the way it's written.

Thai Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
Wow-gourmet pizza made right in my own kitchen...and fast! I is definitely spicy, so if you don't like food with a kick, tone it down with less peanut sauce and more peanut butter or sub. a peanut ginger salad dressing for the peanut sauce.

Delilah's Frosted Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
This is the first sugar cookie/frosting recipe that I have actually enjoyed making b/c they turned out so well! Not only were they beautiful and easy to transport b/c the frosting sets so nicely...they were also delicious and everyone who ate them said they tasted professional. I've never gotten that response with cookies!

Irresistible Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
Beautiful and yummy! I used (thawed) frozen pie crust to save time and sub. pancake syrup for the corn syrups. I had to tent the pie with foil for the last 15 minutes b/c my pecans on top were getting too brown. I also added 10 minutes to the cooking time, and then turned the oven off but left the pie in for another 5-10 mninutes b/c the pie had not set yet.

Pear Honey Cranberry Sauce

A wonderful addition to any Thanksgiving feast! I followed others' suggestions and sub. orange juice for the water and used an extra pear...perfect sweetness to counter tart cranberries.

Busy Night Turkey Taco Soup with Avocado Cream

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
Perfect way to use up turkey leftovers! I sauted an onion and garlic in olive oil, then added the turkey and a bit of water and 1/2 packet of taco seasoning and allowed to simmer for about 5 minutes for more flavor. Then I just added in the rest of the ingredients (and topped it off with cheese and sour cream) and it was delicious!

Wedge Salad with Elegant Blue Cheese Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
This dressing was wonderful with half of the blue cheese--both in the dressing and on top of the salads (I think it would have been way too over-powering with all of the cheese in and on top of the salad!). I substituted whole milk b/c I didn't have any buttermilk and the dressing was definitely elegant and delicious!

Spicy Pineapple Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
I used this as a sauce for the Polynesian chicken wraps from this site and it was wonderful! I used a can of crushed pineapple in pineapple juice (not in heavy syrup and I didn't reserve the juice to add in later) and added the cornstarch and ginger to it and it turned out perfectly!
