Baklava

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2007
Very good baklava. I have made it twice now. The second time I added 1/8 of a tsp of nutmeg. I melted the butter and used a silicone brush to brush it on. The damp tea towel over a piece of plastic wrap kept the dough easy to work with. Don't worry if you break the dough. It won't make a difference in the end.

Mexican Style Shredded Pork

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2008
This recipe is awesome! I have made it several times. I live in Canada and can't seem to find chipotle sauce, so I buy the canned chipotles and use my hand blender to make a sauce with the green chilies. I haven't made the rice, but do serve it with homemade corn tortillas. Fabulous!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2008
I made this recipe for a crowd and they all loved it. The meat was very tender and flavourful. It was so easy! I was asked for the recipe many times. Next time I may add some garlic and a little red wine, but it was great as is too.

Challah I

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2009
This bread is very good, but I did make a few amendments. First I put 1 tbsp of sugar in the warm water with the yeast and let the yeast bloom for 10 minutes. I added an extra egg and sprinkled with sesame seeds before baking. I do find that it doesn't come out as light textured as I would like, so next time I will add a touch more yeast. Overall, it's a very good bread.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2009
I made this pie for my husband's birthday. He loved it and said it was better than his grandmother's in some ways. I did add 1 tsp of cinnamon as well as 1 tsp vanilla, as others had suggested and baked the bottom crust for 10 minutes. Next time I will mix the apples in with the sauce before putting in the pie shell.

Classic Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
These bran muffins are excellent! I made them yesterday. We had company and the disappeared very quickly. I will have to make another batch this weekend. Thanks for the great recipe.

Tzatziki

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2010
My husband loves this recipe and told me to make sure and keep it somewhere safe. I found there to be a little too much cucumber in it and 3 cloves of garlic is definately enough. I added 3 1/2 cloves and the flavour was very strong. 2 1/2 might be better. Great recipe!

Souvlaki

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2010
The souvlaki turned out very tender, but as others have said, it was a little salty. I think next time I will cut back on the soy sauce and add some red wine vinegar. I added more garlic than called so it was nice and garlicky.

Tzatziki

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2010
This Tzatziki was really good, but I did cut back on most of the ingredients. I used 4 cloves of garlic, 2 tbsp. of olive oil and 1 tbsp of vinegar and it tasted really good. It was still a little garlicky, so I will cut back to 3 cloves next time. Also, there is a lot of cucumber in this recipe and the taste is predominant. I think a small cucumber would be better. I also added some dried dill to mine. Thanks for the basic recipe.

Fresh Pear Cake - Country Cook

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2010
This cake was awesome! My husband wasn't too sure about it after the first bite, but then he raved about it and said it was the best cake ever. Really good. I enjoyed all of the changes that I made to the recipe. I used 5 pears. I'll be making it again soon when more pears from the tree are ripe.

Garlic and Onion Burgers

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2010
These burgers are so good! I wanted a burger that had a lot of flavour but was not too heavy, so I make them 3 oz. and very thin. They cook on the barbecue very quickly and my husband and I agree they are much better than store bought burgers. Next time I will grate some extra old cheddar into the beef mixture before forming the patties.

Quinoa Side Dish

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
I loved this recipe but I found the thyme a little overpowering. I followed other reviews to saute the onions at the beginning and I added some orange pepper to the onions. I tasted it to see whether it was done and loved the flavour. Once I added the thyme, garlic and parsley and tasted again though, it wasn't as good. I will definately make again but leave out the thyme.

Charley's Slow Cooker Mexican Style Meat

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2011
This recipe was very good. I used an eye of round roast that I cut into 2 inch cubes. I blended the onion, garlic and peppers with the spices and hot sauce. An hour before serving, I shredded the beef and added it back to the crock pot to absorb more of the sauce flavours. I served this with diced tomato, jalapeno, onion, and lettuce on whole wheat wraps, burrito style, which we grilled on the panini press. I found that the meat could have been spicier, so next time I will add more hot sauce.

Chicken Pot Pie III

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2011
This was an awesome pot pie. I used the Pilsbury crust that you roll out and put it in my own pie dish. I used a full can of 1/2 fat cream of mushroom and 1/2 fat cream of chicken and added some chopped mushrooms to the mix. My husband said it was better than any store bought or butcher shop pie we have purchased. With my own pie plate, there was still room for more ingredients, so I want to add in some additional vegetables next time. Thanks for the recipe!

Best Ever Brisket with less salt

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
I made this on the weekend with the paprika and the dry mustard, after having made the original recipe a few times in the past. It was so good! The addtion of the two spices added another dimension to the flavour and having less salt made it better for us.
