My Daddy and I
About this Cook
I grew up in a small town in the northern mountains of California with my three brothers. After completing high school and attempting college I relocated to Homer, Alaska where I am now married to a wonderful man who, thank the LORD, has a passion for cooking too.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake but I don't like having to keep all the sweets around the house. I also enjoy trying new recipes. In fact, an entire day on my menu is devoted as "Something New Saturday".
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite tradion has to be teaching the young ones how to cook and bake. I think it's a priceless gift that should be passed like a family heirloom.
My cooking triumphs
I'd have to say my triumph to date was my first turkey. It turned out amazing! Which definately made and impression on the in-laws.
My cooking tragedies
Oh, which tragedy to choose from... I can vividly remember being at my friend's house as a young girl and we decided to make brownies. Now I am a pro at this by the age of 10 but there's not so much baking at her house. So we find the ingredients pushed way back in the cupboards and substitute a drinking glass for a cup measure and, well you get the idea. They turned out ok except, we later found out that the flour had been infested by some kind of bug that had been baked right into our brownies. And that was the least of their problems, they tasted horrible!

Dark Chocolate Cake I
I made the cake exactly as instructed except that I added 2tbsp of ground cinnamon and 1/2 tsp of chili powder in an effort to make a Mexican Chocolate cake. The spices were very subtle and delicious! Next time I'm going to add even more. I used shortening to grease a glass 11"x15" glass pan and baked for 40 minutes.

Mom's Zucchini Bread
Sweet, dense, moist, it's more like a dessert bread and I love it! I "flour" the pans with a cinnamon sugar mix, this makes the crust delectable!

Garlic Crab Artichoke Dip
This is a must-do for parties. It disappears super fast and is very good. I serve it with soft baguette slices.
