Sesame Chicken Strips with Sweet Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2008
I made this recipe with 1-inch chicken cubes instead of strips, also added a little 5-spice to the first blend (as well as accidentally using fresh instead of dried onion - about 1/8 of a big onion), and for the sauce I added a dash of sesame oil and some dry mustard. Then I diluted the sauce with water and served the chicken over salad with grapes, tomato, onion and cheese and used the sauce as a dressing. Very delicious and satisfying. Definitely worth trying again!

Easy Four Cheese Lasagna

Reviewed: May 2, 2007
Pretty good, didn't make hardly any changes and it turned out very well. (Had to substitute Montery Jack cheese for the Parmesan) Also, added ground beef and a couple tbsp's each of leftover broccoli and peppers. Next time I will put a little more tomato in the tomato sauce/cottage cheese mix, but I dont think as much as twice as much tomato. Definitely worth making again.

Spicy Sausage Quiche

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2007
This is a really excellent recipe for a more tex-mex style quiche. When I have extra eggs I make this all the time! Some good additions to try for more or varied flavor are bell peppers, or anise in addition to the cumin. (Since I have whole cumin seed I frequently grind it fresh and throw in some anise for fun.) It's best if you can get some breakfast sausage, like the kind that already has fennel or cumin spice in it, but if you need to you can brown the sausage with the spices you enjoy most.

Gingerbread Biscotti

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2006
Very yummy biscotti, great in coffee, good with cream cheese cinnamon roll icing too. 25 mins cooking time was slightly long and I unfortunately didnt check it, but turned out ok, just slightly overcrispy and dark on the ends. I'll watch it more closely the last 5 mins next time.

Southern Living Magazine's Chicken-Fried Steak

Reviewed: May 31, 2006
Excellent adaptable recipe for chicken fried steak. Tried it with heart one time (cause we had plenty) and heart was ..shall we say...too tough. If you do it with something other than the recommended recipe meat be sure you adjust your cooking times accordingly.

Chinese Restaurant-Style Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: May 31, 2006
This is an excellent sesame chicken recipe! I don't usually bother to toast the sesame seeds but I've made this plenty of times with slight variations (and approximations) in the recipe. I do always at least double the recipe. A very good base for forming your own style of sesame chicken! I used pork once in the recipe successfully too. I have no idea how so many people could hate this recipe.. I even make it spicier and licoricier by adding extra fennel clove and cinnamon!

Orange Sherbet I

Reviewed: May 25, 2006
Wonderful sherbet! But next time, I will definitely strain out the zest. Picking bits of zest out was my only problem. But wonderful wonderful flavor!

Granny's Brownies

Reviewed: May 25, 2006
Turned out great (gooey and fudgy) with a few modifications. First, I didn't have choc squares so I had to use the cocoa powder/butter ratio on the back of the Hershey's box (I picked this recipe because several reviewers mentioned success with this). Second, I couldn't help myself, I added a dash of clove. Third, I used roasted walnuts, and a small handful of semisweet chocolate chips. Fourth, I cooked it for 60 mins at 250, then turned the temp up to 300 for another 20 mins, and they were perfect. I think it is important to have a glass pan. Glass and metal cook very differently!

Very good cookies, my first real taste of spiced chocolate baked goods. Definitely worth a try if you're willing to experiment with something a little different.
