About this Cook
I live in beautiful hill country Texas with my wonderful husband, three amazing daughters, and our big, sweet, fluffy dog.
My favorite things to cook
I just love variety! I have some old stand-by recipes, but really enjoy trying new things.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade spaghetti sauce from scratch just like my mom and her mom before me. I don't frequently spend the time to do it, but when I do it's always worth it. I also love getting together with my mom to create the best Thanksgiving meal you can imagine.
My cooking triumphs
My friends love my banana nut bread! I take a lot of pride in it. Acutally it's my mom's recipe that I grew up with, and it is amazing. Other than that, I consider it a triumph whenever I actually find a recipe that the whole family likes.
My cooking tragedies
I was pretty disappointed when I tried to do a cheesy baked artichoke dip for the first time. It was for a party I was hosting and I really wanted it to turn out well, but I overcooked it and it came out greasy and yucky... not really a tragedy, but I'm normally not one to cry over spilt milk, or anything else that goes wrong in the kitchen!

Pan Dulces
Yum!!! I made these for my daughter to take to school for a brunch party, and they turned out so well it was hard to let them go! Not too dense, not too airy, but just right! I was grateful for my bread maker machine dough cycle making this a bit easier. I used 4 1/2 c. flour like some other reviewers recommended, and chose to whisk the dough by hand instead of using my electric mixer. For the topping, I added a couple tablespoons of cocoa powder. It turned out like a paste with the yolks added. Rather than using the rolling pin, I pinched off and hand-rolled the dough into little balls, about golf ball size, and placed them on parchment paper on the baking pan. They waited on the pan under cover for 40 minutes like the instructions said but they did not rise much. Really loved how these turned out. Will definitely make again!

Margarita Cake
I thought it was delicious and moist and good! It did not remind me of a margarita though: too orangey. I did not win my block party dessert contest (of only 4 entries) and it was not all eaten by the end of the party. I gave my 2 1/2 year old daughter a bite and she didn't like it. I made the recipe as written, except I used lime juice instead of lemon, and I found the glaze to be way too runny so I doubled the amount of confectioners' sugar.

Brownies V
This recipe is fabulous! I did a search on the site for "unsweetened baking chocolate" which yielded many results, of course. I chose this one, thinking it would be just the thing for my chocolate craving. I was right! I didn't have any nuts on hand, but I did happen to have the rest of the ingredients and I found this recipe very easy to make. Instead of orange zest and Grand Marnier, I used 6 splashes of Chambord raspberry liqueur. Yummy!
