My first turkey!
Hamm in the summer
About this Cook
I have been married since May 6th, 2003. We have three children, Laila, Alexandre, and Liam. My husband is from Brazil and I had to learn the cooking style of the culture to fit his taste. I am known around his work, and among our friends and family, as the fifties house wife. Everyone calls me Hamm. A nick name that I have grown to love.
My favorite things to cook
Ham, meatloaf, rolls, or anything else with the words "you make it the best" attached.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Rice crispie treats, gourmet sweet potato classic, holiday dressing, I'm still working on the traditions.
My cooking triumphs
Well recently I had an idea in my head of something to put in a dish my mother-in-law had sent some food home with us in. I wanted to make a chicken potpie but I envisioned biscuts on top instead of piecrust. My husband said it couldn't be done, that the biscuits would be all mushy on the bottom. I refused to give in that easy. I found some different recipes, altered prep, baking temps, and baking times, and VOILA! It was so yummy that we ate it all. I had to make it again for the in-laws. It was an amazing feeling to do it all on my own without a recipe to follow.
My cooking tragedies
This triple chocolate cake my girlfriends mom used to make. I just can't get it right and always burn the coco on the outside. I have also tried to bake a pie with wiped cream already on top...added a table spoon of salt to chocolate chip cookies, and all the other usual blunders that come teaching yourself to cook.

Oven Pot Roast
I have been trying to find a good way to do pot roast for years and this recipe is it. I don't add the wine, just the soup and mix and it is sooooo yummy. It is tender, jucy, and has a gravy type sause all done. This is already going in the family recipe book for sure.

Hot Buttered Rum Batter
Holy moley. Where has this been all my life. I work in a restaurant and we made a double batch in the kitchen after closing last night with Blue Bell ice cream. I can think of so many things this would be amazing with. Over cinnamon roles, over ice cream, with apple cider, in hot water, in my coffee. I could go on and on. This will always be in my freezer. I was surprised to find that it doesn't freeze solid. Maybe because of all the sugar. Is that normal?

Holiday Dressing
I also made this for my first thanksgiving and it was amazing. I never expected any dressing to match grandmas, but this one was better...even grandma said so.
