About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Sushi, fajitas, Korean/Japanese food, peanut butter pie with homemade buckeyes, and I love baking!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I like to make each one of my children's birthday cakes a "signature" cake. My daughter's is always a strawberry cake - with real strawberries - no gelatin here! My 1st son's is a blueberry cake. My 2nd son is just turning 1 year old (tomorrow!), and since he's born in the Fall, I'm going for a cinnamon/spice cake!
My cooking tragedies
I never watched my mom when she cooked. My brother always did. Early on after I left home, my brother came to visit me and I thought I would surprise him with a "home-cooked" meal. Everything was set, but I was waiting on my corn to finish cooking. Finally, my brother came in the kitchen to see what was taking so long. He burst out laughing as I explained that the "corn had not finished steaming". It was then that I learned that you boil corn and not steam it. I thought mom had always steamed it because it had steam coming from it! I never have lived that one down with my brother and my mom! Thankfully, that was over 20 years ago and I've had plenty of successes since then.

Mocha Coffee Mix
I love making this during the holidays! I make a bunch and give out to friends as gifts. Make sure to use chocolate drink mix - NOT cocoa mix. The cocoa mix recipe will make this too milky/creamy and not enough mocha/chocolate flavored. I think the recipe is just right as is. However, if you like your coffee strong, you can add a Tbsp or two to every 1/4 cup of instant coffee called for in the recipe.

My Amish Friend's Caramel Corn
This was SO easy and SO yummy! I made some for the holidays. My kids ate it up! It stayed pretty well in a large Ziploc bag for several days. I would imagine packaging it up for holiday gifts would work well, too. Then, since my daughter's birthday is in January, I made some more for her Birthday party. I mixed it with regular salty popcorn for that sweet-savory combo. I've never seen popcorn go so fast! This recipe is a keeper!

Cappuccino in a Jar
This is really nice & easy! It looks nicer when you blend it all in the blender - but even if you just mix it with a whisk in a mixing bowl, it comes out fine. For the "chocolate drink mix" called for, I used the "Hot Chocolate Mix I" from this website. Less expensive option than buying the cappuccino mixes from the store! I'll be making this at home from now on!
