I used to be a professional chef before I became an Interior Designer. I have a real passion for cooking. I moved to Bali with my husband and 11yr old daughter last year. We live in a Balinese villa with our two dogs - we love it here! The local ingrediants are incredible because of the mountains they grow just about everything all year round and you can buy any kind of gourmet imported food here because of all the fabulous resturants and hotels we have here!
My favorite things to cook
I cook a lot of asian food here because it suits the hot weather. I do alot of baking because my friends and family pester me to! This site is great because I couldn't bring all my cook books with me! we also make Banana and frangelico icecream with banana's from our own tree!
My favorite family cooking traditions
our family loves raspberry apple crumble so we make a tropical version with the addition of fresh pineapple and banana and add lots of freshly grated coconut and palm sugar in the topping(yum!)
My cooking triumphs
I have a pretty good record for my baking abilities... I used to work as a pastry chef so that helps! These days I can pretty much make anything I put my mind to, understanding the technique and the 'science' behind it is the trick!
If I am entertaining I try and make things I can prepare ahead and use the best ingrediants I can get my hands on..
My cooking tragedies
Because I have been cooking a long time I dont have too many tragedies (touch wood!) when I was a kid I made yoyo cookies and forgot to add the flour! what a mess in the oven!
