I did not use the sugar or preserves and it was still amazing. I sprayed my cutting board with butter and put one tortilla on it then sprayed the top of that one and stacked another, each time spraying only the top as the bottom would butter itself from the top of the tortilla underneath. I then cut fajita size tortillas into 4 wedges and dredged them in a mixture of 1 tablespoon to 1 cup of sugar. It's important not to get too much butter or the tortillas will have too much sugar and will burn easily.
