the birthday cake I made my mom
Cake!
Chicken with Peaches
About this Cook
I would love to open a bakery one day. If you've ever heard of Sprinkles in Los angeles, thats my dream!
My favorite things to cook
Cupcakes, cookies, bars, cakes, carbonara, sweet sausage & penne pasta, peach chicken, PB & banana pancakes, and my own fried rice.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The turkey soup my mother makes every thanksgiving with leftovers. My dads brownies , mac & cheese cassarole w/ sausage and homemade pizza (he passed 5 yrs ago and I also remember these 3 things).
My cooking triumphs
My Peanut butter chocolate cake that FINALLY won 1st place in our churches annual bake off. I always came in 2nd or 3rd to my mother. This cake was hands down the best thing I've ever made. The peach chicken I made to impress a past boyfriends parents. They raved about it. Also the cornbread & sweet tea I made for friends in California. My famous pumpkin cookies I make every fall & the 4th of July cake has become my personal tradition for the past 3 years.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 6 , trying to impress my mother I attempted 'Peanut butter cookies' by scooping peanut butter on to cookie sheets and putting them in the oven. :) I have not been able to perfect brownies, and made an awful dessert last christmas ; Chocolate raspberry bars. Not technically my fault, as I followed the recipe, it was horrible b/c it was my entry for our church bake-off, that my mother wins every single year.

Banana Cupcakes
Cut the sugar down to 1 cup. I did this, and they are sweet like a normal cupcake. I can't imagine what they would taste like with more sugar than 1 cup. Make sure your bananas are almost black. If not, they won't have any flavor. Make sure your ingrediants are @ room temp. Her directions aren't very clear ... dont just dump in ingredients. The eggs need to be beat 30 seconds after each egg. The addition of the dry to wet should be done in 3 segments, and under 60 seconds. Add first of 3 dry ingred. , incorporate just to combine (about 10-15 seconds) repeat . DO NOT OVERMIX. I cooked the first batch for 18 minutes, they weren't done so my second round I left in for 21, they were much better. Be careful when peeling off wrapper, they stick a bit. Thats annoying... I paired with a light fluffy PB buttercream....heaven, a must try!

David's Yellow Cake
Bottom Line, if it's bad....you messed it up somehow or are WAY to used to Box cake. I am a pretty experienced baker, I made this recipe almost exactly the way it's written ,(i added 3 tablespoons of sour cream) and it's delicious. It tastes like a butter cake, a very rich, buttery, golden, southern cake. Its spongy in texture, fluffy, and just dense enough. I made some of the batter in to cupcakes, it's great for that too, but denser than some people might like (it also sunk in a little bit, ill have to work on fixing that when i make this into cupcakes). With a rich creamy chocolate frosting, it would rival NYC's Magnolia Bakery. I cater cakes/cupcakes, and will use this recipe again and again. I can't wait to use it as a base, and make it my own! THANK you for a perfect yellow cake...finally !! my boyfriend....asks to have this made for his birthday every year. he LOVED it.
