Baked Potato Soup V

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
We've been making this recipe for over a year now, and absolutely love it. We make half a batch, usually, which makes 4 generous servings. For leftovers, we just add a little bit of milk to the soup and heat. This soup is perfect with sandwiches or a crusty bread for dipping, and is better than what you'll get at a restaurant. No advice for tweaking - I think it's perfect as written! Thanks!

Comforting Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
This is a great weeknight recipe. Doesn't take long to make, and really is a great amount for 2 people. We've used a number of cream soups for the base: cream of broccoli, cream of wild mushroom and garlic, etc. I followed the recipe exactly, except I substituted red for green peppers and didn't saute the broccoli ahead of time. We made this twice in one week and will definitely make again. The second time I used almost 1 cup of onion instead of 1/2 - definitely too much, so don't try that! :)

Cinnamon Teacake

Reviewed: May 18, 2007
Was this ever delicious. My boyfriend and I just devoured them! I didn't have a 6 inch pan, and found my usual cake pan much too big, so I made 6 muffins instead, which worked out well. We LOVED the cinnamon sugar on top! In high school the caf ladies used to make these wonderful cinnamon buns, and I haven't tasted anything like them since until now! I have an egg allergy so this is a wonderful and easy recipe for me. Thanks so much!

Roasted Potatoes with Greens

Reviewed: May 18, 2007
This was wonderful - we really enjoyed it. Followed the recipe exactly, except added some chicken broth to give a little bit more moisture and covered with tin foil for part of the time. Delicious - thanks!

Fifteen Minute Chicken Chili

Reviewed: May 13, 2007
This is a delicious recipe! I followed some reviewers' advice and added more corn, and sauteed the chicken with minced garlic and diced onion. I also added some red pepper, reduced the cumin, didn't add the green chiles, and made my own diced tomato by chopping some organic tomatoes in the food processor. To make up for the lack of tomato juice, I added a bit of chicken broth. Wow was this easy and delicious! I let it simmer all afternoon and we had a delicious meal. My boyfriend is a major soup/chili fan and said this was the best chili he'd ever had. I love that it's super healthy - this is going in the normal rotation! Thanks!

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2007
I wish I could give this 10 stars! I had delicious leftovers. I also mixed up the chopped onion throughout. What is nice about this recipe is that it's creamy and delicious without being too rich, I've tried other potato recipes before that were just too salty and cheesy. This is light, mild, and perfect!!

Irish Soda Farls

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2007
This was a delicious part of our St. Paddy's breakfast! I took the advice of another reviewer and ended up cutting the farls in half once they were cooked a bit so they cooked all the way through. Then I did half normally and half in bacon grease. Mmmm!! Quick, easy and delicious - will definitely make again!

Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2007
We really didn't like this recipe, for a number of reasons. I agree with another reviewer who said these taste like biscuits with a hint of cinnamon. Thinking ahead, I made sure the dough was fairly thin so it wasn't overpowering the cinnamon. The actual dough was quite good, but nowhere near what I had hoped. I took some reviewers' advice and doubled the butter/cinnamon/sugar combo, but that made it incredibly gooey and messy to roll the log. To others wanting to try this recipe, I suggest making two small rectangles as opposed to one - it can be very difficult to manoeuver. Would have liked an icing recipe to accompany it. Won't be making these again, though.

Triple Berry Crisp

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2007
Fantastic, I see why this recipe has such an awesome rating. I reduced the servings to 4, and used only raspberries - mmm. I only had frozen berries so I thawed them a bit in the micro and went ahead and used them, tasted great. Will definitely make again.

No Time to Cook Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2007
This was great. I really appreciated another reviewer mentioning that he/she put this recipe on high for 6 hours, because I didn't have as much time as the recipe called for. Mine ended up being done by 5.5 hours on high, so this is good to know for the future. I substituted the cream of celery for cream of broccoli, which was delicious, and cut up some fresh mushrooms. Anticipating the extra gravy (which wasn't really all that much)I made some buttermilk biscuits, roasted potatoes and plain steamed veggies, all great for dipping. Will make again 0 thanks!!

Rosemary Roasted Turkey

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2007
This was an absolutely sensational recipe. My mom and I were putting in the turkey and when she said she was leaving it plain, I found this recipe and within 10 minutes the turkey was in the oven cooking. This recipe was easy, makes the skin turn a beautiful golden brown, and was very moist. Honestly one of the best recipes I've gotten off the site - my Mom and I agree this is a new holiday staple. We used frozen herbs and let them thaw with the bird. Thanks!

Marinated Chicken Pita Sandwich

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2006
This was a very tasty recipe. Make sure to use exactly the suggested amount of lemon juice, or even less - it was a touch strong, almost sour, but I wasn't measuring exactly so it may be my fault - in short, if you have very sensitive tastebuds, go easy on the lemon juice. Other than that, delicious, and I agree with the other reviewer this would make an absolutely wonderful chicken marinade, especially for BBQ. I didn't have any yogurt on hand so I substituted with sour cream - delicious, and we also stuffed some lettuce in our pitas. Our pitas were falling apart so I can see why using tortillas instead would make sense. On the whole - flavourful and delicious - tastes Greek.. mmm...!

Quick Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2006
This is a very good recipe, particularly because it's so quick. Like a couple other reviewers, I found I needed to add more broth than the recipe suggests. I started cooking with only two cans, and when I realized I was going to be short, I added a pouch of chicken bouillon and 3/4 cup of hot water - this was just fine as a substitute. For the amount of veggies in this recipe, I would suggest closer to 3/3.5 cans of broth. I too used chopped celery instead of celery salt. I also added some cut up spaghetti noodles, which was great, but I suspect also sucked up some moisture - something to consider if you're adding pasta. Delicious as leftovers as well. Thanks!

Easy Hummus

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2006
I agree with other reviewers that this is a really good starting point for hummus, and then depending on what you like, you can add or remove ingredients. I made several changes - I omitted the jalapeno peppers and only used 1.5 cloves of garlic. I think next time I would use 2 cloves. I also added 1/4 tsp of parsley, 1/4 tsp of paprika, and a pinch of cayenne for some heat. I also added a few drops of olive oil, and needed quite a bit of the reserve liquid. I really like this recipe - I'm looking forward to experimenting more with it!

French Bread Rolls to Die For

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2006
Mmmm.... these rolls are fresh out of the oven and they are unbelievable. Look great, taste even better - nice and light on the inside. I'm allergic to eggs so I skipped the egg wash and instead drizzled melted butter on the rolls while they were still warm. I also sprayed the rolls twice with water in the first few minutes to give a perfect crust. I would say to others - if you've been kneading the dough and it doesn't feel perfectly smooth, no big deal - I never achieve this effect and always have great bread results. Thanks!!

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2006
This recipe was really yummy. Cooking time was longer than recipe indicated - I ended up covering with foil for the last 20 minutes just to speed up the cooking, then also broiled on high for a couple minutes at the end. I didn't have dried mustard, and that was fine - I substituted with black pepper and a pinch of cayenne - delicious. Thanks!

Roasted Vegetables

This was so easy, and so delicious. Be aware of the amount of oil though - too much and it can be greasy. We used sweet potatoes, red onion, and red pepper - perfect!! Thanks for the recipe!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2006
This recipe is fantastic. I've made it several times and it freezes beautifully. I find it makes two pizza crusts - be sure to roll the crust thinly because it rises a lot in the oven. Thanks!!!

Three Cheese Garlic Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2006
Looks delicious, and was pretty good.. just so much flavour, though - so unbelievably rich that you really couldn't (at least I couldn't) have this recipe too often... boyfriend also gave it a 4 because he didn't love the grease/milk curdling effect... overall, not bad! Thanks!
