Cream of Mushroom Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2013
Wow, I will never use canned soup again! I sauteed the onions and mushroom and thyme in butter until almost done, then added white zin because I didn't have sherry. I allowed that to boil off for a few minutes then set to the side before I made the roux. The depth of flavor is amazing in this soup. We used it Christmas and Thanksgiving as the base for green bean casserole but it could easily be eaten by itself.

Amazingly Good Eggnog

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2013
I read the reviews and lessened the sugar as well as whipped the egg yolks until they were lighter in color. I also tempered the eggs and sugar instead of adding all at once and had no lumps at all. My daughter and I loved this. It was so easy and so much better than store bought.

Rich Chocolate Truffle Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2013
Excellent! Followed the recipe except added a Tbsp. of strong coffee to bring out the chocolate flavor. I added fresh cream to the top as a garnish and it was loved by everyone at Thanksgiving.

We pre-baked the wontons for about 6 minutes. Added ground beef and cheese. The guests liked them.

My guests liked it, although we used it as a foundation for another sauce

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2013
My family doesn't like boxed cakes but really liked this. I did use coffee in place of water and added vanilla. Will make again.

German Chocolate Cake Frosting II

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2013
My husband bet me that this wouldn't taste better than frosting out of a can. Well, he is convinced now! I used brown sugar instead of white to give it the caramel flavor but other than that, followed the recipe. I did use a candy thermometer and cooked to 200 degrees which was perfect. It will thicken once it cools and cornstarch is definitely not needed.

Jalapeno Cream Cheese Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2011
I had only cream cheese and chicken on hand so searching by ingredients brought up this recipe. I am so glad I tried it. I pretty much followed the recipe exactly, except that I was out of cayenne and substituted mozzarella for the monterey jack. Excellent dish!

Coconut Shrimp I

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
Wow! It is as good as the reviews state. I also made the orange marmalade dipping saw with horseradish, grey poupon and honey. It was just like the famous restaurant sauce and appetizer.

Angela's Awesome Enchiladas

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
We really liked this recipe. My only suggestion to change anything would be not to boil the chicken, ours didn't shred well and I couldn't stand the flavor. However, my husband (who hates everything) really like these!

Candy Crunch Pudding Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
I followed the directions exactly and we were disappointed. The flavor is bland and tastes cheap quite honestly. If you want chocolate pudding, just eat that, this won't taste any better.

Grilled Brown Sugar Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
This marinade is awesome! The balance of sweetness to spicy was great, although we like a bit more spice so I added some cayenne pepper. We have made this once with pork chops and once with chicken kabobs. I also ran out of apple juice the second time and used orange juice. It was great both ways but I prefer with apple juice. My sauce thickened just fine too. I gave it plenty of time though.

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
We loved them! I too added 1 3/4 flour and 1 tsp baking soda like everyone recommended. I live above 6000 feet and they didn't deflate like most cookies do here. I also added dried cranberries and it really balanced the choc. chips nicely. My picky husband loved them and asked for more :)

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2009
These are excellent cookies. My only complaint is the color. Mine aren't even close to looking like a nice brown or even rust color, just beige.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2009
I made these during the midst of a huge snowstorm so they didn't really rise at all. However, the flavor was great and I think when it is dry I will try again. I took others advice and didn't roll out, just slightly pounded out to a 1 inch circle then cut out rounds. I also used butter and not enough milk :( They were a tad crumbly but I'm sure they will be excellent next time.

Artichoke & Spinach Dip Restaurant Style

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2009
Wow! It really is like the restaurant kind without paying $9 for the whole dish. The best I have had so far by far. You won't be disappointed. I even made my own alfredo sauce instead of using aq canned variety. I always use Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce on here. You will love it too!

Mama's Balsamic Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2009
Followed it to a "T" with the exception of adding a leftover garlic skin? you know the part that is left in the press? We just left it to float in the vinegar. My husband loved it and so did my picky 5 yr old.

Honey Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
In my search to find a bread that would work for sandwiches and toast, I have tried four recipes on this site and this is it! While the others were good, Simple whole wheat bread and Fabulous Homemade bread, this was far superior in taste, texture and the ability to cut for sandwiches without crumbling. If you don't have a bread machine, you can follow this is a guideline. Combine yeast, water and a tsp sugar and let proof for 10 minutes. Meanwhile combine white flour and salt in a bowl. When yeast is proofed, add to flour and combine with 1/4 c. honey and veg. oil. Mix well. Add whole wheat flour until it pulls away from the bowl and knead well. I use my Kitchenaid. I then let rise in a glass bowl in a slightly warm oven and then formed in a loaf in a loaf pan and let rise. I cooked at 350 in a convection oven for 25 minutes. However, I did cook it once without a convection bake setting and it took an additional 15 minutes. Hope this helps.

Mmm-Mmm Better Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2009
I had been making another brownie recipe on AR for over 6 months but wasn't completely happy with it even with minor tweaks. This recipe first go around is excellent. I followed the recipe with the exclusion of vanilla just because I had run out of it. I also cooked for 23 minutes at high altitude and they didn't fall either!
