My Pickled Little Smokies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2014
This is a really interesting idea. I can see how it COULD work for me but as written, it just didn't. I think it's something in the pickling spices that turned me off. Gave me something to think about, though. Thanks, smitty. :o)

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2014
Thanks AngKN for doing the math for me. This is a good, solid recipe. For those that thought it tasted too acidic, let it be for a couple of days and let the flavors meld. I used this as a marinade for prosciutto stuffed cherry peppers and everyone I gave them to, scarfed them up like they were starving to death. AND asked for the dressing recipe. Oh yes they did. Thanks for sharing. :o)

Sweet, Salty, Spicy Party Nuts

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2014
The first time I made this (yesterday), I used almonds, cashew halves and left out the cumin. I paired these with a bourbon vanilla caramel sauce in gift baskets and cumin didn't fit in. I'm making it again tonight for more gifts and I'm using cashews, almonds, pecans, and peanuts. This time I'll leave out the cumin AND the black pepper. It's just too dominant a flavor for me. I really just prefer the cayenne for heat. The cooking method is quick, easy, and I had no problem whatsoever with it sticking. I followed the recipe for the caramel, the prep, and the cooking time and it worked beautifully for me. Humidity does play a factor so that may have been the problem for some folks. Awesome recipe. :o)

Roasted Loin of Pork with Pan Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2014
This was delicious! Again, I read a recipe all the way through before I make it so I knew I wanted to leave out the cayenne. This is no reflection on the original, I just wasn't feeling it tonight. Other than that, I made it as directed. I served it with roasted potatoes, carrots, and broccoli. Solid recipe. Thanks, Lil Snoo! :o)

Chicken Valdostano

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2014
Absolutely fabulous! I used it as a base and added other fresh herbs that we love. Without those, we wouldn't have liked it as much. This would be my only issue with the recipe and that has more to do with our personal taste than the recipe itself. I'll surely make it again. :o)

Grilled Rosemary Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2014
This is a wonderful recipe! I use rosemary quite a bit but never thought to pair it with mustard. I found all of the flavors balanced and delicious. Thans,Semigourmet. :o)

Feta Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2014
5 stars is the equivalent of an Oscar, just so ya know. This chicken salad is interesting, original, and delicious. I only made 1/2 of the recipe and added the feta to taste. I can't see it as a sandwich filling but as a spread on snooty crackers or crostini, this is a gourmet worthy recipe. :o)

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2014
This was really delicious but for our tastes, I'll leave the butter out and just use the lime and oil for a warm vinaigrette next time. We had yellow rice and black beans for the sides and everything played well together. :o)

Chef John's Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2013
I made a small batch of this as written. It was too bland for me. The next batch I made, I caramelized the onions, ham, and potatoes before adding fresh chicken stock (no water!!!). Why on earth wouldn't you try to extract as much flavor from the ingredients?!? Mine turned out with a much better depth of flavor from just a few extra minutes work. There's no reason that soup can't be more than the sum of its ingredients. It's a perfectly adequate soup as written but I need more flavor in my soup. Thanks Chef John for a jumping off point. :o)

Lucy's Quick Tonkatsu Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2013
I've never had Tonkatsu sauce so I have nothing to compare this to but it was delicious! I didn't heat mine in the micro but rather, simmered on the stove for about 20 mins. so the flavors could meld. Absolutely loved it although my other half would prefer a touch less ketchup. What does he know, lol. Thanks! :o)

Rusty Chicken Thighs

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2013
Other half said he liked that it was juicy and I did too, BUT.....the flavor was so boring and the marinade smelled weird. The maple with the soy and mayo was pointless since it really added nothing of interest, taste-wise, and again, the smell of it totally put me off. I used steak sauce on mine and I NEVER use that stuff. Not happenin in my house again.

Chicken Piccata with Artichoke Hearts

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2013
I'm not giving this recipe 5 stars because I think if I would have added the liquid from the artichokes and capers, it would have been inedible. Because I didn't, it turned out perfectly. The sauce is delicious but needed to be thickened slightly with a cornstarch slurry. Thanks for sharing. :o)

Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2013
I'll give it this, it was a pretty good mug cake for the most part. The choc chips are totally unnecessary and made one of the cakes an oozy, nasty, undercooked, mess. I can totally live without this one.

Italian BBQ Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2013
This is absolutely fabulous! The flavors blend together so well and grilled, the sauce caramelizes just beautifully. I have to admit to one very tiny change, though. I added an extra dribble of Worcestershire sauce. I believe this is my favorite pork chop recipe that I've used so far! Thanks so much! :o)

Bessy's Zesty Grilled Garlic-Herb Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2013
I made this exactly as written. I can't stress enough how unnecessary the saffron is! It adds nothing in color or flavor and it's too expensive to waste. This was also too sweet and I knew it would be but I wanted to give it a shot as written. I'm giving it 3 stars because it was juicy and I liked the spice mix but those are the only reasons. :o)

Chrissy's Sweet 'n' Sour Tomato Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2013
Wow, this was so sweet as written. I tasted it before I added nearly twice the vinegar and it was still too sweet.. My guy hated it and I didn't love it. It just didn't suit our personal tastes but I appreciate that you shared it. :o)

Beer Bread II

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2013
I'm having a hard time rating this one. It was very dense, which I didn't like but it sliced well because of it, which I did like. The amount of sugar didn't play well with the cheese and green chiles either. Not a re-do for me but that's not to say it won't appeal to others. Thanks for sharing, though.

Roasted Green Beans

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2013
Have MERCY! I could eat these things all day long! All. Day. Long. They crisp up pretty much like oven fries and they're surprisingly delicious. It's making my low carb (!@#$) diet so much easier. I love you, samanathon! I'm not even kidding. :o)

Lemony Cucumbers

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2013
I have to agree with the consensus that this dish is bland. On the day you make it. Let it sit a day or two, and it's very refreshing and tasty. I rated it 4 stars simply because I won't ever make it again although I enjoyed trying it. :o)

Good Frickin' Paprika Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2013
This really IS good frickin chicken! I didn't think the added vinaigrette at the end would add anything flavor-wise but it cuts the heaviness of the yogurt marinade perfectly. Loved it! :o)
