Fluffy Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2012
I must admit that I changed the recipe a bit. We were looking for a sweet biscuit for breakfast. We added 2 tsp. cinnamon and a glaze to these biscuits. They were delicious! I will definitely make them as written as they were more moist than most biscuits. They were not too dry and had a nice texture.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2011
I followed the recipe with only a minor change. I added 2 tsp. cinnamon instead of 1. Also, I didn't have allspice, so I added 1/4 tsp. nutmeg and 1/4 tsp. cloves. I also added about 1/4 cup milk, and these pancakes were still thick and fluffy. They were a little too thick without the added milk. These really were absolutely delicious! I will make these again!

Sugar Cookies V

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
These do have a good flavor, but are not really soft. I prefer my sugar cookies soft. Also, I cut the recipe in half, so I was expecting approx. 50 cookies. I only got 30. I will not make these again and will go back to my other recipe. Sorry!

Basil Chicken over Angel Hair

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
This was really good. I've been looking for a recipe just like this for a while. I did a few things differently. I coated my chicken in breadcrumbs and cooked it in with all of the vegetables and seasoning. I also added a little bit of white wine. I took the advice of another reviewer and added a tsp. or so of sugar to help with the tomato taste. I did use a can of diced tomatoes. I will definitely be making this again.

Black Bean Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
I was hopeful with this recipe since overall it got 4 stars. However, these brownies were not good at all. The consistency was good. I'm really sorry, but all you could taste was black beans. I checked the recipe several times to make sure I followed it correctly. I am an experienced baker, so know that this review is coming from someone with a lot of experience in the kitchen.

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2010
These are one of my favorite cookies. The dough is sticky, so I use a cookie scoop to get them on the cookie tray. I also make my own icing with a mixture of powdered sugar(2cups), water (2tbsp+), cinnamon (2tsp) and vanilla (1tsp).

Peanut Butter Candy Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2010
Delicious! Best peanut butter/ chocolate treat I've made. For the chocolate topping, I used 1 tbsp. shortening and milk chocolate chips (no butter). It worked great!

Blueberry Coffee Cake I

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2010
The taste was great. However, the topping sunk and made the cake weak in the center. Therefore, the cake crumbled as I tried to get it out of the pan. I bake all the time, and haven't had this happen before. I won't be using this recipe again.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2010
These are so delicious! I call these my "you can't mess these up cookies." I didn't have molasses so I used 1/8c brown sugar and 1/8c honey. I didn't have all of the margarine that I needed so I substituted shortening for some of it. I can't imagine these cookies tasting any better. Yum!

Italian Easter Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2010
Yummy! My family always makes Italian cookies at Christmas. This recipe is similar to one that we normally make. I love this cookie with the almond, and the icing is delicious! I had a lot of leftover icing. Next time I will freeze the leftover icing and save it for the next batch.

Felix K.'s 'Don't even try to say these aren't the best you've ever eaten, because they are' Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2010
I was very skeptical about this recipe with so much flour, brown sugar, and vanilla. I've been making the same chocolate chip cookie recipe for more than 10 years. However, I took a chance. I am so glad that I did! This were delicious! My hubby said that these are the best he has had. I will say that for me it made 45 cookies for me. They were what I would call a standard cookie size. I can't even imagine how big the cookies would be if I only made 24. Thank you very much for the recipe.

Choco Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
These cookies were good. I did not want to put water in the cookies, so I left it out. After the first batch they were a little dry. I added some milk, and that helped. I would probably add more peanut butter and less oats. The oats overpower the peanut butter. The chocolate icing helped make the cookies very tasty. I will make again with the above changes.

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
This recipe was ok. I do love breakfast recipes with apples, andI've made several others that I prefer. For those of you that have not made this recipe, let me offer a few suggestions. The apples do taste great, but I expected them to end up more like pie filling. They were spiced apples on top of french toast. The caramel sauce is delicious, but it is just that, caramel sauce. If you do not want a caramel sauce on your french toast, syrup works just as well. The directions for making the sauce are vague. Cook on medium until it starts to boil, then put on medium-low and let simmer until it thickens. Also, check the bottom of your french toast after about 45 minutes. I cooked mine almost an hour and the bottom did not stick to the pan, but it was overcooked. I did like the taste of the french toast without the apples, but the combination of the apples, toast and caramel sauce was a little much for our family. It may work well for others though.

Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
Wow! (and I bake A LOT!). I have not made gingerbread cookies since I was a child and was hoping for a recipe that was similar to those I had growing up. This is not it. I don't know if it is because there is too much molasses in it or not. I saw that some reviewers substituted golden syrup. I'm sure that helps. The initial taste is ok, but the aftertaste is very unpleasant. I wish I had a better review.

Mall Pretzels

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2008
These were good, but had more of a bread taste than a pretzel taste. I think this recipe would make a great loaf of bread! I did use 2 cups all-purpose flour and 2 cups of whole wheat flour, which tasted great. I would highly recommend lightly spraying the parchment paper with cooking spray. My husband and I were peeling the paper off the bottom of the pretzels. For those that find the dough hard to work with, it needs to rise until it has at least doubled in size. I usually put my dough in a bowl, cover it with a towel and wrap a warm blanket (out of the dryer) to help it rise. It really cuts down on rising time.

Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2008
3rd time is the charm! I am a baker and cake decorator, but do not normally make chocolates. This does sound easy, but getting the correct amount of chocolate can be a bit tricky...it takes practice. I finally got it right on the 3rd time. I used more than 1/2 tablespoon in my peanut butter cups in order for it to be the right mix of peanut butter and chocolate. Using 1/2 tablespoon left them too chocolately. I also had to use 3 cups of chocolate chips and 3 tbsp. shortening to have enough. I would recommend reheating the melted chocolate before putting it on top of the pb mixture. It spreads much easier. I did also do this recipe with the chocolate candy coating (or almond bark). It was a lot easier and tasted really good. It was not quite as good as the milk chocolate, but we were still happy. We also put broken pretzels in one batch...wow!

Spicy Apple Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2008
This was really good. When making the cake, it seemed as though there were too many apples. I cut it down to a cup and a half. I wish I would have added the full two cups. The cake rises so much that the apples spread out. I made my own icing to cut down on the fat a little bit.
