Sturdy Whipped Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2011
Perfect! I used a little less sugar, full-fat cream cheese, and no almond extract. This will be my frosting recipe from now on!

KAJEWSKI's recommendations made it a 5 Star recipe. They were delicious! I will be making it over and over.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
It's perfect. Sometimes, if I'm feeling particularly naughty, I toss the apples in cinnamon and double the caramel. But really I find all that caramel too sweet and can't eat as much as I like. You decide!

Crunchy Caramel Corn

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
My husband asks for this often. I mix it all in a paper bag and shake it instead of stirring. It's wonderful!

Basic British Scones

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2009
I used butter (of course!) and a little vanilla. I shredded the butter on and barely kneaded it adding an extra TBSP of milk or so. I patted the dough into a round and cut it into 8 wedges. I have to say I was very pleased. I probably won't use another scone recipe.

Scottish Shortbread IV

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2009
I made the recipe exactly as written. I have to say I am pleased! It made way more servings than indicated which makes me feel less bad about how much I want to eat! The only difference is that I sprinkled white sugar on the top before I bake them. My husband is half Scottish and has spent a ton of time in Scotland. He's happy. If my picky Scottish husband is happy, I'm happy!

Baked Applesauce

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
This is a great recipe. I added some cloves and ginger just because I made it first during Christmas time. It will probably be my primary recipe now.

All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2008
This is a great recipe. For all you reviewers in the sugar amount debate, that really depends on taste and the kind of apples used- even the year the apples were grown! I suggest you taste the apples first. If you are cooking it all day you can stop and taste every once in a while. I used un-peeled roma apples, 2 cups brown sugar, vanilla and doubled the spices. I left it on all night with the lid on and then all morning with the lid off. I ran it through the food processor and it was quite smooth. Next time I will probably process it in the morning before cooking it with the lid off to see if it helps with texture. Otherwise I'll have to peel the apples. All that said- we loved it!

I was afraid to make spinich dip for a friend who makes really amazing dip, but she liked it even better than hers. She actually asked for my recipe! It doesn't get better than this!

Honey Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2008
This was really delicious bread, especially right out of the oven with butter. I upped the honey and salt as per other reccomendations. This will be my staple recipe for my son who is allergic to dairy and soy.

Mackie's Cream Cheese Mints

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2007
This is a really great basic recipe. The 2 lbs. of powdered sugar and 8 oz of cream cheese are perfect proportions. However the food coloring and flavoring is really optional. I used only 1/4 tsp. peppermint extract for the whole recipe. Then I added a whole bottle of red food coloring and extra powdered sugar to make up for the extra liquid. I pinched the dough and rolled it into small balls, dipped them in white sugar then pressed them into candy molds. I left them out to dry for about 6 hours and then refrigerated them. They were a great success at my sister's wedding. She even took a box with her on her honeymoon!

Great recipe. I added rice and beans to make it more hearty. I also added some cinnamon. Everyone in my family loved it- including my one-year-old!

Ooey-Gooey Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2007
This is a good basic recipe. I added currants to the inside of the rolls and used quite a bit more cinnamon. I also added another 1/4 cup each of butter and brown sugar to the topping plus some maple syrup. Cinnamon rolls are a special treat and can't be too gooey!

Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2007
This is the best-tasting pie crust I have had and one of the easiest to make. It is much easier to roll out than the traditional pie-crust recipes and I really enjoy the slightly sweeter taste. I will be using this recipe any time I make pie!

Italian Style Chili

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2007
This was a great recipe. I made it for a church picnic and received a many compliments. I was a bit disappointed. I expected it to be a bit more spicy when everything was cooked together. Next time I will find some ways to add some extra spice.

Baked Chicken with Peaches

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2007
This was delicious. I served this to my husband, five-year-old nephew and a very picky friend and they all loved it. I tripled the spices and added some freshly ground pepper and a pinch of salt to zest it up a little more. This will be a summer favorite for us!

Broccoli Beef I

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2007
I LOVE how quick and easy this recipe is. My family likes it flavorful so I double (or triple) the ginger and garlic. I also marinate the beef in the sauce before I cook it and cook the beef in the sauce the entire time. It is delicious!
