About this Cook
I am a stay-at-home mom to a 3 year old. I've been blessed with a family that is not picky, so I have the opportunity to try a lot of new recipes. I'm pretty good with basic cooking, but I still haven't quite gotten the hang of baking yet.
My favorite things to cook
Pretty much anything....as I said, we're not picky. My favorite method of cooking is grilling. My fiance and I have even been known to cook on the grill in the snow! I try to vary my weekly dinner menus by cooking different types of cuisine.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Besides basic holiday stuff, we don't really have any "traditions", but I did learn a lot about cooking just by watching my parents do it. I'm starting to get my son involved a little more in the cooking process, but it's tough right now, for safety reasons. I have a really small kitchen.

My cooking tragedies
There have been quite a few, but this is still the most talked about(although it really wasn't MY fault)! Anyways, we decided to deep-fry a turkey, so I got online and looked at all kinds of tips, including the one where you put the turkey in the pot and fill w/ water to see how much oil to put in. Well, my fiance decided to fill the pot just a little higher than the mark I had made. Well, between that, and the fact that halfway through lowering the turkey, he dropped it right in the pot, we had a volcano of hot oil in our front yard(thank god I also read the tip to kill the flame before lowering the turkey)! I couldn't walk out of my front door for a week without smelling turkey!

Simple Caramel Apple Pork Chops
This was awesome, seriously one of the best meals I've made in awhile. I was tempted to lick my plate clean, but I worried that my boyfriend may not find that very attractive :) I did make a few changes...my chops were very thick, so I browned them and removed from the pan. I then added the remaining ingredients(I omitted the pecans and quadrupled the sauce, stirred those together for a few, then added the chops back to the pan, making sure to cover w/ the apples/sauce. I simmered this covered for about 15 minutes, then removed the chops and apples. I thickened the sauce with 1/2T cornstarch mixed with a little water. These are rather sweet so I recommend serving with savory sides to balance things out. I served mine with Stove Top and brussels sprouts.

Fried Green Tomato Sandwich
I've made this many times...if green tomatoes aren't in season, fried zucchini slices work great too!

Easy Morning Glory Muffins
These are absolutely delicious. I did make a few changes based on other reviews and personal preference. I reduced the sugar to 1c., and used 1/2 white and 1/2 brown. I replaced 3/4 c. of the oil (I used canola) with pumpkin puree, and 1/2 of the cinnamon for pumpkin pie spice. I subbed cherry flavored Craisins for the raisins, because I just don't do raisins. I omitted the coconut, which probably would have been fabulous in these, but I'm trying to eat as little saturated fat as possible. With these changes, I don't feel so guilty for having already eaten 3 of these, they are that good!
