Honey Ribs

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2007
I've only rated one other dish 5*.Came out absolutely perfect. Only observation was that I checked them at the 4hr mark and they were ready. Had I waited 5 hrs, they would have been mush in the bottom of the pot. What flavor!!! Made them again, this time I put them under the broiler for a few minute after I took them out of the crock (after 4hrs). They were tender - but dry. Guess I won't do that again (the broiler part).

Crispy Orange Beef

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2007
I'd have to say that this was the closest you could get to 'authentic' Chinese restaurant food. I followed the suggestion of others and reduced the sugar by half, doubled the sauce and left the beef strips sit with the corn starch on them for 10 min. The only thing missing was 'crispy' beef - I let the oil get hot, I tried to not overcook the strips and sliced them as thin as possible. They just were not really crispy. Could it be the oil I used - canola? Nevertheless, the flavour and tenderness were perfect. On sticky white rice - I was in heaven. Prep time took aprox 90 min. Highly recommended. March 10' tried it again - same result, almost all of the starch came off the meat into the hot oil - doesn't stick.

Browned Butter Vegetables with Almonds

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2007
Used yellow & purple cauliflower along with the broccoli and red onion. Threw in mushroom slices - people very impressed by festive autumn colors. Used 25% less butter than it called for - it was sufficient. Tasted great! - Highly recommended as an easy to make, unique and impressive side dish. Used it along with Prinme Rib.

Lasagna Toss

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2009
Very simple to assemble - got positive comments from the crew. Only change was to go 1/2 Italian sausage meat, 1/2 ground beef.

Quick and Easy Pizza

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
Followed recipe but used regualer mild Italian sausage. Found pizza to be 'just' tasty enough. Would recommend it for fast, relatively low calorie pizza meal.

Egg Foo Yung with Mushroom Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2007
This dish was exceptional! I followed the recipe exactly and found it easy to make and the mushroom sauce on top of the 'pancakes' was a perfect accompanyment. Served it up with Chinese Chicken Salad III. Will do it again

My Hoppin' John

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
This may have made the difference between a 3* and higher, but I was unable to get my hands on a ham bone. I followed the recipe exactly for the rest. It was hearty, filling, and great for a cold December night. It was suggested by my dinner mate that the addition of 'color' like red pepper and corn might increase the flavour. Recommended!

Orange and Maple Glazed Turkey

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
Everyone agrees that this was the best turkey they've ever had! Was given a 28 lb'er and although a little scary - using this recipe - essentially unchanged except for oven @ 350 F. - brought out a Turkey that was moist, flavorful and ever so good.

Colonial Hot Buttered Rum

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2007
Awesome!!!!!! I did if for four of us for a Christmas meal I put together. Everyone was in awe of the incredible taste. Like eveyone says (who've tried it) - like drinking a liquid cinnamon bun. So good in fact, that I was asked to make more for another larger Christmas party on Boxing Day. Again, nothing but oohs and aahs.. This is now a Cristmas tradition for my Crock Pot.

Double Decker Tacos

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
Probably the best Taco I've ever had...My son & I always differed on the choice of hard Tacos (him), vs soft Tacos (me) - this recipe takes care of both. Couldn't find a ripe fruit for the guacamole so I cut it into tiny pieces & mixed with sour cream and lime juice. Very, very tasty and without the mess!

Ham Loaf with Mustard Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2008
First try out of the recipe and I blew it! - sorry... Followed the recipe without any change BUT in rushing, neglected to add the brown sugar, ground clove AND ground mustard! Everything else was exact. Nevertheless, my 14 yr old son gave it a 4 and my girlfriend a 3. I thought it was an excellent dish and unique for a meatloaf in using ground ham (usually it's the same old ground beef). As well, I found the sauce made with whipping cream to be VERY unique - might double the ingredients next time to pull out even more flavor - HIGHLY recommended.

Deliciously Sweet Salad with Maple, Nuts, Seeds, Blueberries, and Goat Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2010
Loved it! Used regular balsamic (had it), pancake syrup (had it), olive oil (you guessed it) & dressing was fantastic! Only thing I might do next time that would improve an already faultless salad might be to lightly toast the nuts.

Amateur's Light Breeze Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2009
Did recipe mods based on another member's review. Used precooked chicken fajita meat (was in my freezer). Sauteed onion, green pepper. Added tomato, beans, mild chile. Sauteed some garlic with chicken - into the pot with the rest added a bit of hot sauce, cumin. Had it with nice fresh bread.

Tequila Cocktail Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2010
Very good - not too different from your standard cocktail sauce. Tiquila does give it a bit of a kick - nice. Observation - made it for 12 servings - 1/2 of that would have served up for 12 people.

Fruited Curry Chicken Salad

Wonderful salad!!! - served it up on green salad. Be careful toasting the nuts, mine burned a little - still added them and they didn't mess up the dish at all.

Mushroom-Stuffed Chicken Breasts in a Balsamic Pan Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2008
Did this dish for my girlfriend's birthday as she loves goat cheese. Made no change to the recipe - used Lobster dehydrated shrooms. The taste was to die for. Only warning might be to have aluminum foil ready to place on breasts near end of 45 min cooking period. Meat was cooked to perfection, but skin was a little more cooked than I'd like. HIGHLY recommended - P.S. Gravy was WONDERFUL!!

Broccoli Stir Fry

Not too impressed. Followed recipe exactly. At recommended cook times - found to be a little undercooked. Lemon pepper didn't really do much for flavor enhancement.

Ropa Vieja in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2007
As per author of the recipe, used red wine instead of water. Used a 'Bavette' (Flap) Beef and after 7 hrs, it came out quite tender. Wasn't crazy about the taste as it mostly tasted of the tomato paste and not much else. Probably my fault as I used one 13oz can of paste (too much).I also put all of the required spices, red pepper, green pepper, onion in 3 hrs prior to serving. Don't think I'll try this one again.
